Frost20 20 Posted December 23, 2013 Now before we speculate whether this is due to the alpha, or the fact they plan to release on console, we need to take into consideration that we invested in an old engine. While it is a very sad issue indeed, what makes it even more depressing is that this could, perhaps, already be hard-coded into the games' foundation. In other words, the engine is so old and out of sync with the current technology that it may [Will?] never run at 60 frames. The Arma engine can do a lot, much more than many, many other game engines, the problem seems to be that no one felt compelled to do the most tedious development known to man Optimizing the engine. Now personally, i have witnessed how difficult and time consuming these massive optimizations can be, even for some of the best professionals in game development. For example, the highly educated, highly [self] community motivated team from Sony working on Planetside 2 went a through a game changing phase in development and progression. It took them months, many, many months of a decently sized group of specialized professionals partnered with a nvdia representative to achieve a noticeable difference in what some would call a somewhat simplistic looking game graphics wise. So, that being said, i highly doubt that (in my personal opinion) the frame rate will ever see the improvement that many wealthy PC owners would like to see. This is all speculation however, but ill give you my source for what brought me to this conclusion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ssjr36NKTE as well as the reddit thread http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1thpsp/dayz_alpha_gpucpu_utilization_issue_video/

Particularly in first person shooters. Some would consider it unnacceptable, since there are people already running many games at 120 fps Edited December 23, 2013 by Frost20
mphilippa 43 Posted December 23, 2013 I have always wondered whether I am blessed by the Arma gods, I have never had the frame rate issues everyone else seems to have. The only time I see below 60fps is when I run FRAPS when I will cap it at 30. Specs:Intel i7 3770 Radeon 78508GB DDR3and I run Arma from an external HDD

gerbilschooler 229 Posted December 23, 2013 If a person can't play a game at 40 FPS then they are probably just not that good at the game or have a mor edetail oriented mind than, what I would consider, the average person. The average person being able to play a game at 25 FPS with motion blur added
gerbilschooler 229 Posted December 23, 2013 I mean. Shit. I would love to get a 120hz monitor and pump out 120 FPS... but. I am on a budget, like most gamers out there. I think this is where the hostility starts when it comes to talking about frames. You having this attitude of Holier than thou because my frames are "unacceptable, since there are people already running games at 120 fps". Well, sorry that it is unacceptable and "really, really bad" that I don't have insane amounts of money to spend on a computer. But, I'd say, more the fucking majority of the populace 30 fps is good e-fucking-nough. So, until you're ready to buy me some quad sli Titans and a tri 120hz monitor setup. Don't insult my fucking frames... twat
Kipale 78 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) I have alright rig.i7 2600khd 795016gb ram etc.. It's indeed sad that you get under 30 fps in cherno and electro. I don't think it will be improved ever, i mean how they even could make any big difference anymore when the code is mostly done?Doubt there is any magical way to get even +10 fps bumb. It's just gonna be like that, i'm kinda used to that fps lag but it would be damn awesome to play dayz with constant 60 fps..I thought about upgrading my GPU for dayz to squeeze maybe couple more frames but i think it's worth it then..
