Cannibalism?

Recommended Posts

I must admit I have a bit of a character flaw...I seem to murder everyone I meet with an axe. I try to make friends, always with the best of intentions, but somehow my friends always meet a grisly death at the end of my axe. I don't think my parents hugged me enough as a child.

Today as I stood over the butchered body of one of my "friends", I couldn't help but feel that my favorite hobby was a bit wasteful. I mean I never really kill for the loot, it's really just compulsion. Then it hit me, what if my murderous streak actually could render some use from the bodies of my poor victims? What if I could collect meat from their body's like wild game from the mod? Why then my friends could serve some other purpose than being wasteland litter.

What do you think? With the shortage of supplies that all the coast-huggers complain about, would this be a way to alleviate some of the strain? Worked for survivors in The Road after all =p

Hope to see you all for dinner soon =)

You terrible, terrible person...

I'm all for it.

I think cannibalism would definitely be interesting. Though given how easy it's been for me so far to find bodies, maybe they should rot uncommonly quickly (due to infection or e.t.c.?) Or zombies, when they're included, should rapidly consume any meat on a player? We don't want to make it too easy to get meat.

Except there isn't a shortage of supplies and you shouldn't be rewarded for murdering every Jack and Jill you run across just so you can get a morsel off their corpse.  Hunting animals will come in the future and you already want cannibalism. I think you just want an excuse.

Why not?

Why not?

Because there isn't a shortage of supplies. There's no need for it now and even less of one when animals are added.

Plus with this being a full-fledged game you have to worry about countries accepting it now, don't you? I highly doubt Australia would allow it and I don't see why they should be alienated for something so unnecessary.

But but but.. it's realistic. In a world short of supplies and a screaming belly, I'm sure we all would've done it.

I have a cannibalism script running on my Epoch server, where you can gut human players at the cost of some humanity. You can then sell the meat at the black market. And although SA won't have that aspect, I like the basic idea. It adds to the darkness and morbidity of the game. It's also a relativly quick fix for the devs. Basically just copy/paste the animal gutting selfAction and apply it to humans and rename the meat.

Every time someone has a suggestion realism is brought up. You know what's realistic? Being bogged down by all the crap we carry around. Chafing when running in blue jeans for hours on end.

Sleep.

Puking when you eat and sprint for miles.

Disorienting headaches.

Hypothermia.

Proper nutrition.

Yada yada...

This game isn't aiming for realism in every aspect, and we don't want it to, truly. Also the world isn't running short of supplies. I've never starved. I have ample food. There's no purpose except for OP wants to eat his victims and have a reason beyond killing.

But man is the most dangerous game! The fallout series got away with it =)

Okay. Cannibalism isn't about compensating for a lack of supplies (which is completely artificial anyway). It's about adding interesting features to the game that create  uncomfortable human interactions. You know. The point to DayZ.

You have the PERFECT profile picture to go with this statement.

It was only implied and that's actually a great example of Australia not being accepting of games. It's the reason Med-x is Med-x and not morphine.

If you sit down with a knife and gut a human in a game there's no implications and there's no need to take the chance. It's not needed for the game and wouldn't improve it substantially, if at all.

I think you have enough ways to torture newbies, mate. Let's focus on things that matter.

Yes let's focus on things that matter, like cannibalism...

Rocket said that there WILL be cannibalism. he stated in one of the twitch streams... So your dreams will come true!   :)   :)   :)  mmmm would you like a meat pie?

I agree with ZedsDeadBaby. I don't think cannibalism should be included primarily because of realism/because it'll be necessary. But just because it'd bring an interesting facet to the game if I realized that the next guy I see might try to eat me.

And awesome!
So cannibalism is in the plans =D

Nice to know zombie's aren't the only ones who'll try to eat me in the future xDDDD

Is it in the game yet? No? So obviously they're not focusing on it at the moment. Thanks for the completely pointless sarcasm though.

You shot down someone else's idea by saying "Let's focus on things that matter." The same retort is used here and you act like it's any different

Because the other idea was obscure weapon functionality to accomplish something that can already be accomplished. If you want to torture newbies to death, you can already do it in a variety of ways. We don't need Russian roulette. Period.

Cannibalism is a pretty unique feature and a new way to harvest resources. It adds a dynamic to the game that doesn't exist yet.

Basically it boils down to you deciding what matters. I'm not going to sit here and do a back and forth if that's the logic you're going to stand by.

Let's focus on hunting first. Then decide if cannibalism is needed or if Chernarus has enough cattle and sardines to go around.

People I have met said they preferred dying to my medical experiments over being shot. It was more fun for them. Now I can actually follow through with my threats about eating them! Edited by ProGamerGov

Cannibalism is a great idea.

You need to have a punishment in place for going that route to satisfy your hunger though.

Treat it like a sickness. Once you consume human flesh you now become "sick", and your hunger decreases at a higher rate than normal. The only way to reach satisfied hunger and above is to eat more flesh, but the more you eat, the "sicker" you become, increasing in levels of sickness which increases your hunger depletion rate, with a cap on it of course so it maxes out at a high, but not impossible to sustain (just tough)hunger depletion rate.

Definitely an interesting mechanic with lots of possibilities on how to implement

i am pretty sure rocket did say during a livestream, that cannibalism would make it in. cant be bothered to look it up though, it most probably was in the 2nd stream ( of the two 3hr streams prior to release).

Rocket DID say in a livestream that cannibalism would definitely be in the game at some point and it would make for some interesting decisions.

However... I feel there are enough reasons to shoot every person that you see as it is, without craving for their meat being a factor. If cannibalism is to be added I think there should be some kind of negative, most sensibly a VERY high chance of infection (as is with cannibalism IRL) or possibly getting shakes after eating human flesh (such as in Book of Eli). This way you could tell who was a cannibal upon meeting them and maybe their screen would also shake (though painkillers shouldn't cure this, it should just last it's duration.)

Just an idea, I'm sure there are flaws.

Cannibalism is a must. also there is no sickness associated with eating human flesh this only happens if you eat the human brain.

Eating just the flesh is perfectly fine.
