lunchyyy 9 Posted December 21, 2013 Why is this a thing? Back in the mod if you have space you could take the item. Now for example if I want to pick up a box of cereal and I have adequate number of slots required, I cant just drop it into my backpack. I have to go through a tedious process of moving all my equipment around just so I can pick it up. Surely im not the only one who wants this gone?
Skat3rat 1633 Posted December 21, 2013 I like it. It is like having to arrange your gear as you would in real life. You couldn't just throw a bunch of things into your backpack in real life and have much space and room. You would have to organize things so you could fit the most amount of stuff in it.
Eiskrem-Kaiser 54 Posted December 21, 2013 I actually think, you might be the only one having a problem with this. I like this new feature. Just like in real life, you have to stack things into your backpack. You can't just drop them in if you want to get more stuff in there. And honestly, I don't see your problem. It's not really hard to do, or anything.
h3retic 224 Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) actually, inventory is way less convenient in the mod than it is right now in the sa. Id rather go through the trouble of moving things around than having the old arma 2 clunky inventory back.Even the current UI in dayz sa is good looking in my opinion. luke.kta@gmail.com 17 Posted December 21, 2013 This game is a survival simulator. It's attempting to deliver the most realistic and immersive experience possible. This feature definitely feels more immersive to me than just dropping stuff into my backpack like its some bottomless pit.
hogscraper 328 Posted December 21, 2013 I miss the old way because it was faster and contrary to what you guys are saying the old way was more realistic. If I opened a backpack and started putting things into it they would would stack on top of each other. If I reached down into the bag and grabbed a bottle of water, everything else above it would not just magically float in place. Like the old system, everything would just fall down filling the empty space leaving the room at the top of the bag. I do like the new system better, though, because I can't lose gear by forcing a large item into a small space. I couldn't care less how things are sorted in my pack because I have 20 slots outside my pack now. I can put my food in on article of clothing, water in another, etc. The main problem I have is that the unrealistic way the stuff doesn't settle into the pack the way it used to in the old system means that if there are zombies on my tail I can't just grab something as I'm running by, I have to needlessly waste time organizing things. Again, though, I gladly will trade that inconvenience for never grabbing a rifle off of the ground and finding out later that it only made it into my bag because it destroyed something else I already had in there. MrNomadic76 39 Posted December 21, 2013 I like the whole micromanagement side of the inventory, it reflects a true to life need to rearrange things to fit them in like when you go on holiday or pack your shopping bags, you have to pack things in a way that makes best use of the space available, which may be quite difficult in a situation where you have the undead coming at you or 5.56 rounds pinging off the wall you're hiding behind. What you want is to throw stuff on top of your bag or case and it just settles into the limited space available as if by magic, or crazy luck. The thing with DayZ SA is, it's not meant to be easy, you are meant to make life easier for yourself by arranging your pack in a way that allows things to slot in rather than throwing stuff in any which way and then having to rearrange each and every time you want to add stuff. Personally, and call me anal if you like, I try to keep things in order. Currently I have 3 stanag mags in my pants, canteen, bandages and morphine in my hoodie, pistol in my tac vest with another stanag mag and loose .45 rounds, and my pack is arranged with all food together, canned drinks next to that, pills, painkillers, charcol tabs next to them with a first aid kit and a defrib on the bottom. I have 4 empty spaces ready to drop another first aid kit or something of the same footprint into and try and keep a long space free down the sides for more mags or water bottles or vertically shaped items, just so I don't have to spend any time rearranging. You should really be checking this and rearranging after every loot run through a town so you don't get caught short. Once you get into this practice you'll find you will do little rearranging on the fly. Also, if you're in a group you should designate each person to carry the majority of each thing, food, medi's, ammo, while keeping a basic ration of each type for yourself. If you're lone wolf, you need to realise you can't take everything with you, prioritize.

St. Jimmy 1631 Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) The inventory is good. Kind of simulates searching items from the backpack or pockets. Only improvement could be that the slot system is replaced with volume system so a pen does take a very small room compared to a can of beans and we could stack things better but of course backpack and tactical vest for example are different inventories like now.
