Simmal (DayZ) 0 Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) Hey guys...I played now for a year the other evil game (not sure if it's allowed to mention it here, so I don't say the name) and it get's boring, I collected more weapons then the 3rd World War would need... I run around completely fully geared from start on and just KOS everything with my mates I see... Kind of boring after a while... not to mention all the crap with Premium Account, and buying Equip...Never mind, just so you know what my experience was so far...Can you help me with a couple of questions:DayZ seems a lot "slower" than my old game, all movements are done in "real" speed. Is this supposed to be like this? I actually like it, it's more strategic than Quake-like...I died once, than I stayed of the path till I found a really awesome spot (the military base south of Pavlovo in the South West) and well I guess because of my old game experience... I just log in there, roam the area, play there for a while (I'm not server hopping, cause I can't carry any more) and than log out after a while. I am pretty sure that's not how it's ment to be... But I am thinking, why going somewhere else if I have everything here. In a "real" Survival Situation I would do the very same thing. Secure my area and stay put as long as it's useful.I die, I loose everything, no global inventory, only way are the tents which are not ingame yet but everyone has acces to them. So even the best DayZ Players have to start from scratch with their flashlight when they die?Spawning... I die and do I spawn close to my point of death? Or just randomly on the coastline? How can you meet with friends? I mean if you always spawn somewhere... It takes me hours just to run to that point, given the fact I dont starve / get killed before? How can I persuade my mates to get into DayZ because we actually can play together?A fully skilled character in the old game with all protection gear was able to tank like 20 shots of an M4 without using any meds... The guy I killed here dropped after 1 or 2 within my first burst in his direction? It would be awesome if this is normal, but just wanted to make sure?!I actually have to find a map / compass every single time for navigation? How long do you have to play along the coast line, that you know where you are when you spawn and know where to go? That might take months mh?I am absolutely happy about this game so far, it's so much more exciting... But well because of my old game as I said, I am scared for my Char... I don't wanna run around, stay put and shoot everything that comes to my new home...How can I make screenshots? I tried to make one in the main menu just to show my gear to a friend, but didn't work...Edit:What is a saline bag and what can I do with it? Is there a guide what I can do with all the stuff? Why do I need the tools (hammer, pliers, etc)??I found an FNX45, can I reload it with the .45 Bullets? It doesn't work with mine, but probably because they are "ruined"? Shall I throw em away?I would appreciate some constructive feedback a lot and please don't flame in this thread (pay-to-win scam and so on), I am playing DayZ now and I just wanted to let you know my experience so that it's easier for you to reply to my questions.Thank you very much.CheersSimon Edited December 22, 2013 by Simmal

MrNomadic76 39 Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) As far as knowing where you are at any given time goes, after a while you will recognise landmarks that will help you pinpoint where you spawned, that comes with experience. In the meantime, find a map you can have open in your browser, one that shows clearly the topography of the terrain (hills, contours, ravines), and also placement of buildings so you can compare what you see in game with the map. Also, for direction finding, there are many tutorials on how to do this online, like learning to read the stars to find north (yes the stars are true to life, unlike in that previous abomination you've been playing). Oh it's cloudy? Tip: The clouds always move east. Bullet physics are realistic in this game, one well placed shot will kill you outright, a spray and pray burst may have you leaking claret from all over and you'll either die from bloodloss or you'll fall unconcious and a zombie gets a free meal. A Saline bag will restore your blood fully but you will need an IV kit to combine it with and a friend to administer it. A bloodbag however, will only restore 20% of your blood, so treat this as a temporary fix if you're already really low. If you die your respawn point is random, mainly on the coast but I've occasionally spawned inland, although this is rare. Starting again with nothing is what makes DayZ what it is, I've been kitted up to the nines with fantastic gear many, many, times only to be killed because I took my eye off the ball for a split second. First rule of DayZ; Don't get attached to your gear, it's merely on lease. My personal second rule of DayZ; treat every corner like there's someone waiting around it who spotted you 10 minutes ago. And 3rd one to be sure; Don't get spotted, use cover, don't skyline yourself, move in short bursts scanning the area constantly, if you don't have TrackIR you should be putting much strain on the ALT key. Good luck. Edit: For any weapon you need a magazine to put the rounds in before putting it in the gun itself. With the M4 and the Mosen, you can chamber one round 'into the breach' but then that gives you one shot, so make it count. Hosty 647 Posted December 21, 2013 About the pistol and ammo, you need a clip to put the bullets in, then reload the gun.

cataclyststa 8 Posted December 22, 2013 I'm not sure what the Saline Bag is in-game, but in real life it is a bag of salt water which can be used intravenously. I'm assuming in-game it is used for cleaning wounds and or curing sickness.

Here is link to saline bag info: http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Blood Saline InjectionA saline injection will set the bloodlevel of the recipient to 5000 (maximum). Combine a Saline Bag with an IV Start kit, put the result into your hands and use it on another player. Edited December 22, 2013 by Guest
Zogvarn 118 Posted December 22, 2013 Can you help me with a couple of questions:DayZ seems a lot "slower" than my old game, all movements are done in "real" speed. Is this supposed to be like this? I actually like it, it's more strategic than Quake-like... 1. Yes Dayz is slower paced. Think of it as a simulation instead of a COD style FPS. I died once, than I stayed of the path till I found a really awesome spot (the military base south of Pavlovo in the South West) and well I guess because of my old game experience... Secure my area and stay put as long as it's useful. 2. If you want to secure an area like that and patrol the perimeter to keep it secure go for it! This is a sandbox game you can do whatever you want within the game engines limits. Some people help new players, other play medics. Still more play "bandits" or bad guys. Hell some people even create "police forces" to counter the "bandits". These are just some ideas. Personally I'm a survivalist. I help when I think it wont put me in too much danger and eliminate any threats to myself or my group. I die, I loose everything, no global inventory, only way are the tents which are not ingame yet but everyone has acces to them. So even the best DayZ Players have to start from scratch with their flashlight when they die? 3. Correct Spawning... I die and do I spawn close to my point of death? Or just randomly on the coastline? How can you meet with friends? I mean if you always spawn somewhere... It takes me hours just to run to that point, given the fact I dont starve / get killed before? How can I persuade my mates to get into DayZ because we actually can play together? 4. Random respawn usually on coast. Getting together initially with friends is problematic due to not knowing the map. After experience though it isnt such a big deal. I like to think of trying to meet up initially as an adventure. When someone in our group dies, meeting up again is more like a rescue operation for those that respawned. Make it fun. A fully skilled character in the old game with all protection gear was able to tank like 20 shots of an M4 without using any meds... The guy I killed here dropped after 1 or 2 within my first burst in his direction? It would be awesome if this is normal, but just wanted to make sure?! 5. This is normal for now. Clothing/gear does give some damage mitigation it seems, but nothing unrealistic. As more gear/weapon options get implemented things will change. I highly doubt though it will ever be like "that other game". I know which one you mean :) I actually have to find a map / compass every single time for navigation? How long do you have to play along the coast line, that you know where you are when you spawn and know where to go? That might take months mh? 6. Doesn't really take long to become familiar with the terrain of certain areas. The sun/stars are accurate btw and can be navigated by their positions. The sun is slightly off though from straight East/West as is appropriate for the latitude of Chernarus IRL. The map posted by other is extremely helpful for new and old players alike. I am absolutely happy about this game so far, it's so much more exciting... But well because of my old game as I said, I am scared for my Char... I don't wanna run around, stay put and shoot everything that comes to my new home... 7. My advice would be too go explore the whole map the first few times you respawn. Especially if you have a decent backpack, an axe, and a water bottle. After all, the gear you have is only borrowed cause EVERYONE dies eventually and has to start over :)
