Ozelot (DayZ) 394 Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) Once you have tactical shirt/vest/pants/backpack the amount of stuff you can carry on you gets crazy. While it's probably possible to carry all that stuff at once, the degree to which it would tire you out while moving would be very high. the average person probably gets very tired jut walking carry over 10 kilos. A physically fit military person would get tired with more than about 30. And just your clothes themselves have weight to them. stuffing them full of ammo and water bottles is going to get very heavy very fast. inb4 "hurrdurr alpha" Edited December 21, 2013 by Ozelot
-Gews- 7443 Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) Agreed. One of these should be just about the LAST thing you want on your back over hill and dale: Edited December 21, 2013 by Gews
Ozelot (DayZ) 394 Posted December 21, 2013 Agreed. One of these should be just about the LAST thing you want on your back over hill and dale: I completely forgot that you are able to mysteriously carry one of those on you with no regard to inventory space. louist 163 Posted December 21, 2013 Axe as side, it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility. I know how useful anecdotal evidence is, but there are plenty of week and two week hiking trails in my province, where all your food is packed in and your waste is packed out. You could easily be filling a 70 liter pack with 15-20 kilos, not counting the weight of water. It's a bitch, and by the end of the day you're exhausted. But possible. beardedcap 22 Posted December 21, 2013 I think the inventory space in each item is perfect. This is coming from someone who has done multiple multi day back packing trips carrying anywhere from 25-40lbs. I suppose they could add some degrading effects from it, but I'd find it annoying. In general I only end up carrying one weapon, a decent amount of food and water, and some medical supplies. It isn't unrealistic, look up what the normal infantry would carry. Ducard 11 Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) Right now you have 8 slots in the vest, 6 in the jacket, 6 in the pants, 35 in the bag, 1 melee weapon and 1 rifle on yoru back :D. Just to add i like the new system it's not exactly realistic but it's a game at the end of the day it doesn't have to be. Ozelot (DayZ) 394 Posted December 21, 2013 Because its not in your inventory space. its on your back. This makes sense in video game land. In reality a fire axe is fucking heavy.
twingunz 308 Posted December 21, 2013 Doesn't weight affect your hydration and food consumption rates though, that in itself is a fair logical counter isn't it? maybe a slowing system as well? but honestly I thought the system thus far was pretty fair. As if it was real life you'd also do everything to squeeze every little thing you can carry to increase your survival chance.
jOKe (DayZ) 2 Posted December 21, 2013 I think when stamina comes into play it won't just be a case of what you CAN fit into your backpack, it'll also matter what things weigh. At the moment I just fill my backpacks with those yellow containers which means I can pretty much have 150% of the inventory every else has. :P But when stamina comes into play I'll be walking like a tortoise, a "pack-rat" of sorts. :
samiam_jr 30 Posted December 21, 2013 do you people know how large some of the packs that those who serve in the armed forces carry? Most of the time they will carry anywhere between 50-100 Lbs! although it is a lot they can still do it or how much a fire fighter suit weighs? the usually carry 60-70 Lbs while being nimble through a burning builder. Should you get tired faster the more you carry? yes, but if you are being chased by a zombie you should get an adrenaline boost. This is my 2 cents on the matter
bad_mojo (DayZ) 1204 Posted December 21, 2013 Waiting for stamina & carry wight systems to be added before I even think about discussing this stuff. Gotta learn to walk before we can run.
