Types of ammo

I found an M4 but cant seem to find 5.56 ammo, I have plenty of shotgun shells and 7.62. Is there 5.56 rounds in the game or does the M4 take another round?

Yes, there is 5.56 ammo.  It isn't very common though so you have to look for it.

I found some .357 rounds as well but they seem to be rarer than the M4 and green shotguns rounds.

Does the shotgun shells have a purpose in the game at the moment? 

Or its just useless because theres no shotgun...
