I really am lost lol

Hey guys :)

I bought Dayz standalone today, started to play and obviously had to get to know the control and stuff..

I entered the first building where I immediately found weapons such as a knife and a baseball bat (I think it was a bat) I could not pick them up to save my life, this sounds so embarrassing but I simply couldn't. I tried every button.. After that I just became lost in the lanscape.. Needless to say that I died at the end

I am, as you can tell, a complete noob in this game but I love the idea of it. Can anyone help me out how to pick up things and in general some tips for a beginner like me. Thanks and please don't hate on me, I just want to play this game as you :)

Theres two ways to pick up items.

 

You can hover the crosshair over it until the take option shows and press either middle mouse button or F

 

Or if you are close enough and can see the item clearly press TAB to go into your gear menu and the items will show in the vicinity window to the right, then either just double click the item or drag and drop to your inventory on the left.

My suggestion is to watch others play. Go to twitch.tv and watch some people stream the game. However, I am always a fan of trial by fire.

 

If you play it enough, you'll get the hang of it. You've probably played other games before so you can go into your options and check your keybindings.

Thanks guys, appreciate it. I'm not the guy to watch others play tbh, rather play it on my own :P

Should I walk on the streets to find more towns and cities. As I said in the OP I became lost in the forest, any way to prevent that?

Maps are pretty hard to come by, so yeah, best bet is to stick to the woods but keep roads in view, you don't want to be out in the open too much, there's a lot of bandito's out there.

 

I agree with not watching others play, this games at its best when you get out there and explore things for yourself. :beans:

I find the easiest way is to just press TAB to bring up the gear menu and then drag the weapon from 'vicinity' to my character.

Haha yeah :) I used to only play FUT as I absolutely love football and this is my first non-football related game after years :D
