do people actually want a complicated medical system?

Recommended Posts

I dont think so I prefered the mods health system Morphine for broken leg, blood bag for health, painkillers for the shakes. Being a solo player and trying to get freshspawns to give you bloodbags was easy in mod now that people can punch you to death in 2 hits it will be almost impossible to get someone to help you.

I love that the system is complicated that means people won't be able to just run around killing, they'll have to take care of themselves as well.

You have got it totally wrong ...this will not stop people from just running around killing at all.

I love the idea of a complicated system until we start considering blood types. finding the correct blood type to give a transfusion is wayyyy too difficult, especially because finding someone who's willing to donate is generally really hard. or impossible, if you're lone wolfing.

I understand this is to drive people to play cooperatively, but if everyone's just one big family, what are you supposed to do?

and the idea that this is to stop KoS is horseshit.

I'd take a complex medical, nutrition and weapon modification system (and crafting) ANY DAY over any kind of achievement or leveling system.

@OP Yes I love the new parts of th system added so far.

as someone else suggested would be cool if eventually you could make primitive medical supplies like antiseptic from the land.

I'd love depth like this:

Will a bandage help heal your wound? yes.. Will antiseptic spray on a sterile bandage be better? hell yes,  Better yet, why not take some of your anti-biotics to prevent future infection and speed up healing time?

Vomiting?? will water help, of course, it keeps you hydrated.  but what if you had an IV bag, surely you'd recover faster with the right meds.

Basically, wouldn't it be great if there were multiple solutions to the problem, and some were better then others?  I can heal a small wound on my own, but someone with the right tools and knowledge could surely do it better then I could..

It's all about balance.

The medical system needs to be complex enough to be challenging but rewarding with multiple solutions, while avoiding becoming so tedious and immpossible to use that people would rather just start over.

I don't mind complicated systems, but the current blood bag system just seems like a lottery. I also think there should be realistic options for solo players

wait...so you want an easy ride? stressfree gameplay that doesn't require effort?

You are clearly part of the COD generation , where you are taken by the hand through levels that are impossible to fail.

This is dayz son , you learn to survive or you die  , there are no shortcuts.

Lonewolfing needs to be discouraged.

You will complain " oh but it's too difficult to find a blood test kit" and you might only have 12 hours game time. Your character is persistent , maybe you will find medical supplies tomorrow or the day after? That's the fun and mystery , every day is  a different challenge.

DO NOT turn this into what DAYZ mod became. A haven for whorders , cowards and cry babies.

For your raging nerdgasms:

This would probably be a bitch to implement, but what about in-depth medical kits that test your blood for vitamins/minerals/glucose?

You would have test strips for various vitamins and minerals laying around in hospitals, which you could either use separately or combine to make a test panel. It would require a shitload of unique items to account for all of the various custom test panels, but I imagine the coding wouldn't be EXTREMELY hard to pull off once you laid the foundation (character information table with min-max values, current value, various rates of loss).

This would allow easy implementation/randomization of things like anemia, diabetes, scurvy, etc...

I don't know.. If blood transfusion gets more complicated, why not to die in the forrest and just run back to your gear with full blood?

What if there was an easier, but less effective alternative?

more complex doesn't always mean harder.

For your raging nerdgasms:

If that was implemented I would honestly never bother with it.

This is DayZ. I want to be scavenging food and killing zombies with an axe, not performing a college Chemisty course lab.

Maybe if got sick (being wet/cold for an extended period) there was cough syrup, or if you got infected (zombie attack) you took antibiotics, headache/dizziness (shaking) you took painkillers broken leg you take morphine. But bloodbags I dont should exist maybe the ability to instantly heal after a fire fight just doesnt seem right. I like the saline after you pass out from being dehydrated or starved though.

I think the addition of a complicated medical system makes the game more fun, by forcing you to play rather than hide. I couldn't be happier.

Everything in this game is about knowledge, that's how you survive. Do you know where all the water pumps are? Do you know the quickest paths to NWA? Do you know which medical supplies does what and how to combine them into something that fits you or your "patients" diagnosis? This is knowledge that make you stand out as a survivor and can make you more valuable alive than dead. It's necessary complexity and an advantage for those who has the knowledge. More complexity=Less people will know everything= Players have more value= More depth. It's a good thing!

I like the idea of things being more realistic and requiring thought plus time invested to get results.

I want it so complicated that you need to send the developers a copy of your medical degree to be able to use it. If you don't, it just shows up as jibberish.

I love the medical system, it adds more achievement, because one fuck up can mean the difference between life or death. Later on in the game when you have amazing gear, it will make you think twice before causing trouble cause it can backfire on you, thus suppressing the KOS mentality.

It also adds a lot more game play and things to do before you can officially be settles in, like finding your bloodtype, making sure you have antibiotics. I think rocket made bandaging extremely easy since all you need is a tshirt to get 2 bandages a.k.a rags.

well some of the ideas are puzzling me at moment especially on medical side of it and after seeing rockets latest twitter saying he wants it even more complicated it does make me wonder is he complicating things too much for the sake of no end game?

see its like you doing extra work for the sake of it in game . it doesnt want making so its that much of a chore that you cant be bothered to even survive because of how medical system is set up.

if im honest i prefer straight forward simple ideas that are, fast ,smooth in transition and dont cause stress to the player or annoy. the previous blood bag system worked quite well. it wasnt too time consuming and it wasnt trying to be too fancy for the sake of the problem.

sometimes what seems like a great idea on paper doesnt translate to great ingame or great gameplay.

while it does mean more work for the invidual and give more things for that person to do and acheive, it just seems like a step too far. a more simplier idea of similar to how it was .

what are you thoughts honestly? do you think we need to be qualified doctors or spend as much time knowing and searching for blood ?

would you rather just get on with playing and have a simplier system?

do you think it adds to the game?

what im getting at and this may apply to other areas is with the lack of end game. which is dayz weakest point. is complicating routine tasks like eating and medical and other tasks just a way of trying to mask over the low end game play? do we need to make everything 5 or 6 things combined operations to mask over simple working ideas that can be done in one ?

any thoughts on this matter? is dayz trying to go one step to far on over complicating simple objectives.

Uhh.. yeah. Complex medical system would be preferred. None of this preschool crap any more. I want a survival game.

Oh cmon. Yeah, realism is cool. But its a game and sometimes simplification is just better for the gameplay.

My character had to eat 20 bean cans from dusk till dawn to survive. If it would be realistic my character would be fat as hell and would probably die from a heart atack.

As long as the basics allow people to play freely but  I think there's room for a more complicated system for those who want to dig into it , play Doctor and become a specialist.

I love complication, the challenge and extra dimension to it. The higher impact you suffer from loss (aka getting killed or injured severally) the more thrilling the game becomes, the greatest the sense of survival, the greater the sense of achievement from surviving. But the thing that concerns me, from a game-play-only perspective is blood-types. If you don't play with a large group of folks often, you're basically not going to get any blood, unless you find someone who is willing to donate, or if you kill someone and steal their blood and it matches (if that works even).

I totally agree that just ripping open a blood bag and drinking that bitch down like a man who loves his woman all month long was ridiculous."YO BRO FILL ME UP SON".

So as a mostly solo and duo player, the blood-type system will make it very difficult. But the one thing I look at is, it basically means I'd need to keep myself fully fed more often so I'm regenerating blood. I like the added complication, though the new blood system will certainly make it much more difficult for me.
