Opening cans on the ground?

I read on the forums that all you needed to open cans was a hard surface. But, i stand on paved roads with my can and I dont get any message.

P.S. I found a Payday mask lol I confirm they are in the game!

I found a rock earlier today... maybe that's what they were talking about when they said a hard surface?

 

P.S. There are images of people wearing the PayDay masks all over the forum, so that was confirmed some time ago. :)
