Does changing servers cause your character to reset?

This is happened three times to me (minus the wipe). When I come back after a day and select change server, my character turns into a fresh spawn. The main menu still showed my character as he was when I first logged off. Does changing servers cause this or is it a bug..er?

As far as I'm aware developers have not narrowed down the problem, it seems to happen under many different conditions unfortunately.

jup my character have been spawned at the beach several times today if i dc or logout and come back a bit later, i start at the shore
