dirny 24 Posted December 19, 2013 Now! Come over here and join the delightful conversation about AI, what have you noticed about the zombies and what would you think should be improved? Personally I find it sort of in the old style, like when person goes near a town or a place where there are zombie spawns they... sort of start to spawn? Aka from time to time one zombie spawns and it seems quite randomly either ignore you or then agro to you like a homing missile because you spawned it, through walls and from relatively far away too. This to be fixed so that the zombie is not aware of the player instantly and maybe up the spawn too as a single zombie never brought any trouble to axe wielding maniac. Now discuss! Share the things you have noticed, what might be possible to do improve them, drink tea and smoke a pipe in the armchair.
CREDiBLE 42 Posted December 19, 2013 It's a good call to make the zombies spawn serverside. But it brings about the problem of making the zombies threatening enough, as server optimalization conciderations come in to play very quickly. It eradicates the problem of meta-gaming by "looking for zeds" when you enter a POI. It also forms new possibilites in the form of hoarding zomies and more dynamic zombie behavior. But as of today the zombies are, well. Not optimal I guess we can say. I love their animations, that's a huge plus. And they've got an even scarier feel than in the mod. On the other hand, they are no-clipping non-stop. Through walls, through floors, you name it. And this just might be me, but I'm having a hard time figuring out the detection system. Seems a bit random. And it's a tad bit irritating that sometimes the zombies have a hit range of 2m while i have the hit range of 0,5m. Oh, and the bat and the wrench is useless for fighting zombies. Gotta fix that. So I guess my conclusion is, as most other things in this alpha, that it brings about great possibilites for the future, but it ain't much to brag about today. Euryalus 2 Posted December 19, 2013 My biggest issue with the zombies is the fact that they either see you or they don't, it's very inconsistent. Sometimes I can walk right past one and not aggro it, and other times I am proned, scouting a town from a distance, and out of nowhere I see four zombies start sprinting at me from at least 250m away...at night, haha. And good luck shaking them as well, they never seem to de-aggro. I can deal with clipping as long as the auto-lock super zombies become more predictable.
