Isn't the point of an Alpha build...

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

And I'm just speculating here, but isn't the whole point of an alpha to test, report bugs and suggestion new implementations and give feedback about the current state of the game?
Going through these forums I've noticed that each individual who has suggested or given feedback of the game has been flamed and slapped with Rocket's bible.

Yes, everyone is aware it's an Alpha. What I don't like seeing is in each thread I've read has had at least a few replies to the OP's rant/suggestion/feedback ending with him being slapped in the face with a "famous" quote by Rocket.

"WARNING: THIS GAME IS EARLY ACCESS ALPHA. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME AND ARE PREPARED TO HANDLE WITH SERIOUS ISSUES AND POSSIBLE INTERRUPTIONS OF GAME FUNCTIONING."

Yes, we get it. Thanks tips we're aware of that. What each individual is trying to do is report feedback. So, we don't need you're ignorant remarks... take them elsewhere.

Futher-more, to each person who reports a bug/fix/suggestion keep it up. And, for the fan-boys.. Keep it in your pants mate, we're all Veterans here.

Yep literally the only giant long crying rage rant posts are from fanboys telling people to stop posting bugs and giving feedback. I don't think I've seen even 1 single post of someone 'crying about the game and how it is super shitty QQ I'm never playing again' like these fanboys seem to be seeing in every single thread.

Don't worry the only people I hate is the the people who just cry, cry and cry some more... Critcism is completely and this Alpha sure needs it in this state.

I personally am loving the Alpha and it's 100X better than the mod. It has a tons of problems and issues that need sorting obviously!

Compared to basically every single alpha or beta game's forums ever though there is effectively none of this happening at all except in the uber-fanboy's minds.

I disagree that it's happening as frequently as the naysayers are trying to claim it is, but I'm not enough of an idiot to deny that there's a problem on both sides - some folks don't understand what an Alpha is and apparently need to be told that, and just the same, some players need to loosen themselves from Rocket's nutsack and accept that there are things that need changing.

I haven't seen more than a handful of legitimate suggestions that are being delivered in a reasonable manner getting screamed at and slapped with the Alpha Shield treatment though - the only ones that are getting that are the 'OMFG WHY HAZ NO COMBAT LOG PROTECTION WHY HAZ NO SERVER HOP PROTECTION' posts.

Exactly, I've been enjoying the game. Sure, bugs are expected as they are always expected in testing an alpha/beta build. As character wipes are too, but people need to be a little more open minded about things.

We don't ask people to stop suggesting or bug reporting.

We ask people to search the forums before they post their reports or suggestions to make sure another thread about the same topic hasn't been made.

We also ask people to consider their suggestions. Nobody wants AS50's or monsters (Except for the zeds) or anything else completely overpowered.

We love good suggestions and people who don't report problems which has been suggested before.

There's also a separate site for bug reports: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/bug_report_page.php

Threads containing such content I would normally avoid. OP's who normally create these threads are young and or naive to the whole concept of an Alpha. But, as I mentioned this would legitimately be a concern to the the legitimate reports/bugs/suggestions. As, any DEV of any game would take those suggestions/reports and use them to sculpt their game.

If you have a bug, check the feedback tracker to see if it exists.

Don't post another report, CHECK THE EXISTING REPORTS.

The game has been out for a couple of days and I've deleted over 400 duplicate reports (and not even scratched the surface), some of those reports from players whining about bugs on the forums.

If you want to contribute, follow the very simple guides either on here or on the bug tracker at http://feedback.dayzgame.com

I agree with you entirely - I think a lot of it is perhaps regular users getting a little worn down with people complaining about either very minor things in the grander scheme of things 'it's too dark when I want to play!' or complaining about things that are clearly not features and have been addressed already as bugs 'my character got wiped when I changed server! FIX NAO ROCKETTT'. Those get pretty tiresome after the first 10-20 times you see them.

We're aware of that. Each individual with a bloody mind is aware of that. Flaming them or slapping them with Rocket's bible isn't the solution.

Agreed, but often times these are things that the devs themselves have already addressed and said 'we know it's not working/enabled right now, it's coming, but this is our first Alpha build so bear with us.'

I don't think anyone would call that an unreasonable attitude on the part of the devs.

As I said in my other post, I think it's perhaps members not being frustrated at the user's feedback, but the fact that they're not reading available material/information before submitting their complaint/feedback. Like I highlighted in my initial post, I'm yet to see more than a handful of instances where genuine, useful and well-delivered feedback has been in any way negatively received.

But again that isn't happening much at all. Meanwhile I see 15 of these every 3 hours http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/155650-lol/

People posting stupid ideas or not have seeing 1 dev post in the middle of 1 thread is still feedback not giant mindless rage posts like the fanboys seem to think are 99% of the threads.

You sir, I agree with. And it seems like we're both on the same page.

You can have my beans.

As I said in my initial post - there are idiots on both sides.

Fortunately for those of us in possession of more braincells than teeth, the morons are pretty much keeping each other busy, leaving the relatively sane few to get on with things and redirect the million questions from new users that have already been asked before. :p

Amen. Anyone who has a mind can and will decipher what threads to read and what deserves their time to read. You see a thread title you don't like? Here's the solution stay out of it. Let them fight, and lets enjoy a game that has been awaited for.

There is a bug reporter. You can post bugs there, considering they check it a LOT more than the forums.

Okay people coming on the forums to see how the game is don't care about that. I bought this game and 3 other copies of it for my friends exclusively based on coming on the forums and the worst "bugs" I could find PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT were loot is more scarce and zombies act like zombies now.

I've got a question for you. Did you actually read the original post? It isn't only concerning bugs.

The problem is that very few people actually know how to properly give critique, illustrate problems, and just generally behave with civility.

Most of the people experiencing "backlash" for highlighting problems with the Alpha, from so-called "fanboys", are expressing themselves in a profoundly inflammatory manner. Very few people can highlight a problem without assigning blame or somehow being inflammatory.

Crude Example...

Player 1 - "The zombies don't work! Dean lied to us!"

Player 2 - "The zombies don't work! Devs look into X, Y, Z to fix them!"

Player 1 - "Devs! Hacks already happening! WTF? You promised it'd be gone!"

Player 2 - "Devs, I've seen some possible evidence of hacking. What is the status of this? /readsthestatementproducedbyRocket"

It's very simple, Player 1 just had to not say the last bit in the first example in order to remain non-inflammatory.

But, so goes the internetz. Developers are on top of things it seems, I don't really care what the post-release rabble has to say. That and I agree that the Alpha is not above critique simply because it's WIP.

And thats what we've been discussing here. The difference between being young & naive to old & wise.

well I'm no fanboy, I've been pretty critical pre-release about the direction it was going nut as some examples;

wah wah wah rocket lied to us

paying us to test how could he do this

melee is shit (not constructive feedback to make a solution

omg the servers are all night wah wah wah

I'm not saying melee and night servers aren't a problem, I'm just saying people need to give constructive feedback.

Sure, but I'm saying that it's not as much of a hard duality between "people who offer feedback" versus "mindless fanboys who dismiss all critique because it's Alpha".

There are people who offer feedback in an idiotic and libelist manner, and there are people who offer feedback that is well-reasoned. Likewise, there are "fanboys" (whatever the hell that means) that use Alpha as a shield against critique, and there are those who readily welcome feedback.

There are idiots everywhere, so trying to fit them into irrelevant categories and label people with generalities doesn't really advance an understanding of what's going on.

Thanks guys, just what I wanted to say :)

Enough are not. Plenty of people whining about how unfinished the project is, how the mod is better, how rocket is a dick for charging money and what not. These people don't need a slapping, they need a whacking. There is a sub forum for that and a bug tracker!

I'm not disagreeing with you, regardless of where you go you will always find inhabiting trolls, idiots or mindless drones. But it's in your (generalizing here, not saying you specifically) ability to decipher what is constructive criticism and what to avoid. Joining in on the flaming isn't the go to solution.
