SBR's and fighting from a vehicle in Standalone

Recommended Posts

The SBR (Short Barrel Rifle) is not a great weapon system the reason they exist is for fighting from Vehicle's.

so i'm Suggesting that you should be able too shoot out of cars with handguns subguns and Short Barrel Rifle's.

that will give sub machine guns and SBR's a place Besides just being a place holder until you find something better, and when you're car is under fire it gives the Passengers something to do, besides panicking or praying.

when i say "SBR" this is it  7.5" Barrelled m4/ar15's, AK74U 8.3in,  G36C 9in....

for comparison a M4 is a 16" Barrel and M16 is 18" Barrel, M24 is 24"

I don't think this will be overpowered as the SBR is underpowered.

What?

This is a pretty good suggestion. With the attachments we already have, why not have a short barrel?

I like it :)

why not have a short barrel?

thanks man,  massive loss of velocity (damage), loss of accuracy and more recoil.

Some problems:

-there are no cars to shoot out of so it makes your gun less powerful for absolutely no advantage

-ArmA has a history of ignoring barrel lengths and DayZ isn't nearly as fussy about real-life performance

-you can fight indoors just as well with a full-length rifle, if not, people complain and demand "ShackTac movement"

If they fix those problems then I'm all for it. I don't want something that's just cosmetic, or unrealistic. And FYI a short barrel does not equal less accuracy, a short barrel usually means a short sight radius and that's the problem, with optics that's not an issue.

Personally I don't think most SBRs fit the setting, but that horse bolted a LONG time ago so there's little point in fighting the tide of Magpul accessories and yada-yada-yada.

-are you saying that there won't be cars in standalone? Your example: AK74U isn't less powerful, just because you can use it from a car.
-if you are  right, then the AK74U will just be a AK74 you can use from a car, not what i'm hoping for, but not broken either.
-that was the first thing i said "The SBR (Short Barrel Rifle) is not a great weapon system" - yes I agree completely.

I want realistic SBR's as well, and no a short barrel does not necessarily equal less accuracy the 762X51 is a good example of this,
but the 556 likes Barrel inches, and yes at 50M the 7" Barrel might even be more Accurate then a 18" Barrel but as the range goes further and further the 7" Barrel  will become less Accurate than a 18" Barrel, due to the lower velocity of the 7" Barrel. The small differences between each round, will be more apparent at greater distances, and because of the lower velocity of the 7" Barrel, wind will have a bigger effect on the slower bullet.

And I'm by the way not suggesting that barrels should be a part of the attachment system.

Cars and other vehicles will be in the standalone, just not yet, much further down the road.

He's saying that because the only real advantage of a weapon like this is to shoot out of vehicles, it will be useless until (my guess) the full game is released.

Nope, I mean no cars now = no point now. Also you could probably poke a full-size rifle out a car window, it would just be less convenient. Not sure how they would model that.

As for accuracy the problem, like you said, is the slower velocity = more drop and longer time of flight, and the projectile will pass through the transonic region sooner, which fucks with the bullet's stability. That's not an issue for assault rifles and it doesn't model that anyways. As well you want a barrel and powder combination that burns the powder consistently which it doesn't model either. There's only one accuracy value so they have to compromise.

So drop and time of flight. They could easily make a system to reduce the muzzle velocity.

yes, way down the pipeline i know. SUV snipers nest OP lol.

time of flight and drop should do the trick.

True, but I wouldn't want to be using an M14 for clearing out an inside location.
