gaznox 7 Posted December 19, 2013 I am one of the players who in the mod always used the mic for communication. I feel it improves the experience even though it gives your position away to other unknown players. Bandits most likely will always use skype, Mumble, etc if they want to hunt players. But, for the players who want that immersive feel I think it would be a cool idea to define the range heard based on the loudness of the voice. If I yell into the mic I should be heard much farther away than if I am talking in my normal voice. I could imagine running away from zombies or bandits thinking... where did Jack go? And having to yell to see if I could locate him. For those that wouldn't want friends blasting their voice in their ear when yelling, a system that caps the amplitude could be put in place. Just food for thought. What do you all think?
xInfinityx 44 Posted December 19, 2013 I think a system where you choose would be better. whisper mode = 5 meters direct comm = 80 meters A calculating system seems complicated but i'm not a programmer.
blurhitz 244 Posted December 19, 2013 Not a bad idea... but I don't feel like yelling while playing in my PC. People will think I'm high as fuck.
Guest Posted December 19, 2013 You realize how many ears would be wrecked if you accidently sneak up behind someone who then yells. Sorry not a good idea imo

Just food for thought. What do you all think? 1. it would be difficult to implement. The client would have to constantly be sampling the mic while it is open and you would have to configure it ahead of time to determine what input level was "yelling". At which point someone could set the lowest possible level to "Yelling" and constantly be blasting super loud and far. 2. I don't think we need to be that immersed. xInfinityx's idea is a good one though.
eclipse0414 25 Posted December 19, 2013 The neighbors... all they'll hear is "STOP SHOOTING ME" "MY LEGS ARE BROKEN, HELP" "GET BACK HERE, YOURE DEAD" and like a magic trick, the police/EMS are right at your door :D
