Suggestion: Give Different colors to status descriptions

Recommended Posts

Here is an example of what I meant:

Hunger

When you're hungry, you see the following messages:
"I feel tired", "I feel run-down", "I feel worn-out", "I feel like taking a nap", "My stomach grumbles", "I'm feeling hungry", "I want to eat something", "I feel hungry"

When you're very hungry or starving, you see these messages:
"I'm extremely hungry", "My stomach grumbled violently", "I'm starving","I feel exhausted", "I feel extremely tired", "My head pounds", "My head throbs", "My head hurts", "I feel dizzy", "I feel light-headed", "I feel faint", "I feel unsteady", "My stomach grumbles", "I'm feeling hungry", "I want to eat something", "I feel hungry"

so basically possitive effects are shown in green (which is already done), from less serious to very serious status, text color will start to go from yellow to orange to red to bring up attention.

P.S.: will there be a suggestion section on the forum soon?

They already have a hunger/thirst bar when you open your inventory up as well as the coloured text i think.

Meh.... I like it beeing grayish white. Colours would break the immersion for me. I just want the last message of each category (food, dring health/stamina) to be shown in the inventory screen (in white) :P

but you wont keep your inv. open at all times right? you will need the heads-up when you are not checking your inv.

I don't understand how does it break immersion? Like when you get uncomfortable irl. You feel it in different levels. When you are slightly hungry and when you are extremely starving, your body gives you immediate feedback. I'm simply suggesting to mimic these feedback through color because you can only receive feedback in a game through your eyes, not your stomach.

Yeah, but I don't want red text popping up all the time. I'd make dayZ look like a cheap bill board :(

What's wrong with checking in your inventory? You have to open it to eat/drink anyways!

Exactly, if you don't want red text to pop up all the time, you'd better get some food/water. It's good for you.

And the status bar in inventory is only a temp fix, if they decided to go with text only, might as well add color to help.

Besides, I put food/drink on action bar so I don't always open inventory to eat/drink.

No, no. no! The idea behind games like these is that you have to be cautious, that you have to think, that you have to be smart. We don't want a game that goes "You need to drink now. Press "3" to drink." We don't like that. It's up to the user to pay attention to these things.

First, just by giving texts colors wouldn't dumb the game down to "Press "3" to drink" level. You still need to read the text to see if you are hungry or thirsty or sick, you still need to open inventory to see how hungry/thirsty/healthy you are.

Second, they already made the positive effect text green, so why not go the extra mile to make the game look more polished?

why are people so afaid of little changes?

Well, "afraid" is an overstatement... I'd rather have all messages white, and the last ones in the inventory... But yeah, whatever.

What really needs to stop is all these messages saying "player123 uses a modified data file". That shouldn't concern players, only admins
