I Stand Alone. This is my Story.

Recommended Posts

So I played Standalone again and this is a poetic narration of what had happened. Guess where the bugs at!

--------------------------------------------------------------

I woke up in the cold shores of somewhere God only knows. My mind is a haze, not knowing how I came to this very spot that made me feel frightened and alert at the same time, unknowing what to do when I felt a pinch in my stomach that brought me to reality. I might have been lying there for a few days because my insides started communicating with me as soon as I became aware of them, wanting a fill of fresh food and water but my first act is to check my pockets and realized that a flashlight is bulging inside there. I don't remember bringing it with me but I am not complaining. It is a good thing to have this piece of technology because it is night time and it is as black as death.

Pulling it out of my pants was easy but when my fingers finally felt the ON button the damn thing didn't even flicker. With no moon or stars to illuminate what I am doing, I try to feel my way to open the torch and figure out whats wrong while enduring the shiver and the feeling of being alone. Got it. Sticking my index finger in the hole shows that it didn't work because there is no battery to burn it. Whoever have put it in my clothes must have place the battery too in my pockets and sure enough I was able to feel it and took it out to finally liberate me in this darkness.

In my hurry, the battery fell among the grass and with it, I cursed in disappointment. A few more minutes of frustratingly sorting  through stones and dirt I finally found the battery again and slid it in my flashlight. A tunnel of illuminated hope was before me but still there is a massive blackness of unknown to be discovered.

But I am not interested in adventure. My feral needs requires my attention. Other than that, my mind is looking for something familiar. Something called civilization.

I begin to walk but I feel like a ghost is following my way, I turn my light behind me and around almost on every occasion of a suspicious sound even on the simplest howl of the wind until I made up my mind that its just paranoia or simply a symptom of hunger and thirst. Running slowly got my body to warm up and I begin to concentrate on my journey.

I slowly turn my light to another direction when suddenly, a bright light shone before me, almost blinding me.

Is that light mine? I might be shooting light on a mirror, reflecting the beam back to my eyes.

My fingers killed the switch... but the light remained.

"Hey, Man. Friendly?"

Hearing that voice, I almost had a heart attack. He was just standing there and he never made a noise.

"Hey." I said. I was a little insulted because he is acting like he needs to hide from something but I am happy to see another face of a human being so it was completely forgiven.

"I think Elektro is here. Follow me."

"O-ok. Lead the way." I replied.

Elekto-what?! That word didn't ring a bell in my memory. I am like a sheep following a shepherd.

We continued walking and stumbled into a house. I tried to take a look on the windows hoping to see if someone's home that would be kind enough to offer shelter or a phone so I can call back home but my companion is already entering the front door while I am left outside. I wonder what he is doing?

I felt a little creeped out being all alone in there so I also came in.

"I'm coming in." I echoed into the door, so that I wont be scaring him.

The moment I step in, I see him lift a fire extinguisher with his arms and kept it. What is he planning to do with it? If he is planning to kill some fire, the only fire we have is the light from our flash lights and I will be glad to even find a burning one to help warm up my frozen hands.

The house was completely stripped, rusting, rotting... abandoned. We left the house and soon we are walking again. I am feeling a little uncomfortable with the silence until I finally had the urge to talk.

"Hey where are you from?"

It took a while for him to respond.

"South..... America."

I am not sure if he is making that up because he sounds like he came from the same place where I know I came from.

"I'm from America too, the.... United States?"

I think he is no mood to talk. I don't know if he is hiding something from me or he is hiding from something else.

There are more residential houses and found a pair facing each other on the road, he choose his and I took mine. They too appear like have been long evacuated by its former inhabitants. I'll do like what he is doing and find something useful for nobody seems to care about them now.

The place also was stripped to the bone but left a heap of clothes. Someone's trash is someone's treasure. Finally something that will help me fight the chilly wind, a black hoodie. It smells a little like an old cabinet but I wore it over my skin like its brand new. Finding nothing more useful, I got out of the house to check out what my new friend is doing but I couldn't hear any footsteps nor the familiar shine of his light in the interiors of the house I saw him enter earlier. I decided to visit, expecting him to be inside but it is as empty as it looks.

My face knotted in confusion. South American guy where are you??? Did he just...? I can't believe this...he left me!

I didn't even hear him get out nor saw his light moving away from here. Did he just slip out on purpose? Playing another trick just like what he did earlier? I was so pissed off being left here like that. Good riddance, if that's what he wants!

In my disappointment, I stormed out of the house when my movement clung into something... sharp. I yelped.

Damn! Just great! I cut my palm on a piece of broken glass and I could feel the hot blood trickling down my fingers.

I don't want my problems to be compounded any further. I need to cover this smiling wound fast while I am at work making sense of my miserable existence.

The cabinet have leftover clothes that seems to be clean but checking further shows they were contaminated by mold and stains that I don't want near my injury.

My depressed mood and the sting of my cut is making me insane when the floor board creaked. South American guy? You have returned?

I wonder what happened? Did he got lost? Did the battery of his flash light died? I begin to feel bad putting him in such a negative image just a minute ago. I walked into the living room where the noise of footsteps came from.

Shining my light over, I saw a woman's blonde hair and she slowly turn her head to my direction, revealing a bony and peeling face that is barely kept in place by a gory mouth, dripping down her neck and staining her already filthy and bloody clothes.

My reptilian brain exploded freaking hell! I immediately retreated back to my corner and shut my light off. I could hear her hiss and shriek in a morbid babble, aware of my presence.

Something really weird is going on here. None of us moved a muscle.

I took a few minutes to take deep breaths to calm my nerves. If this is another human being, it might be alright to communicate with her but my mouth remained shut. I might be hallucinating. Maybe I am just imagining things...! Oh God... Is South American guy also an illusion?

I finally had the courage to take a second look, to verify if my mind and my eyes are not playing tricks on me but the problem is I don't want to believe that the shambling woman in front of me does exist and is the same supermodel last year that won from the morgue. If this is the same girl that South American guy saw here, I now understand the need for discretion. This unreal... It must be... IT MUST BE!

My feet want to leave but my flash light shone on a piece of cloth lying on the floor... next to the decaying blonde.

I feel it nagging. My wound is inviting me to pick it up.

I measured my chances. She is knee deep on the smashed floor board, probably stuck and moving my light around didn't got her attention any further.

Alright that's it. My mind is playing tricks at me.

I need to eat something soon so that I can stop seeing things, I said to myself and proceeded to leave my hiding place to get my rag.

I carefully approached her in side steps and reach for the clothes with a stretched arm. So far so good. The blonde didn't even notice me leaning before her.

The clothes was a simple shirt but clean as a nun's underwear. This is the type I need to cover my wound, I ripped it to shreds to make it so.

All that movement didn't bother my nightmarish companion but I didn't make any more actions other than what I came there for. An illusion is an illusion and must be left the way it is.

I begin to feel easy as I am about to leave the room but I am keeping the weight from my feet, not wanting a noise. A part me still believe that this is real. Fine I'll let it have it as long as I can leave and get away from my imaginings quickly.

But the house is decades old. A feathery weight was enough to make it a slither into an earthquake.

The blonde screams.

From the outside, echoes of crying murder responded from all directions. Did I just awakened something serious? The blonde burst to my direction like an attack dog, fear froze my legs stiffer than ice. Only the warm blood drenching my clothes thawed the cold to get me running for my life.

That crazy blonde clawed through my skin, digging off whats left of my doubts to my own sanity!

The bushes and low hanging tree branches I passed through whipped me on my face and body as I try to get away from the noise and screams behind me that never fades and grows louder and crazier.

I have no idea, no direction of where I am running to. My torchlight is bobbing up and down in chaotic flashes until I finally had the sense to focus.

I shine it behind me and found out that the blonde has brought her boyfriends. What did I do to deserve this?!

I dragged my feet further but they kept chasing and I begin to pant and wheeze. If I keep on this way I might as well as fall down dead.

Then on the peripherals of my vision, I saw a glint of light. Not mine and not far from here, stretching in a parallel direction to me.

Someone human is here with me?! Could it be? Its got to be! It should be him! It must be him!

I sprinted like there is no tomorrow to get close to that light. That only thing that made sense right now.

"Hey its me! Heeelp! Something is chasing me!" I yelled as I got closer and closer to it.

I arrived and found the light was lying on the ground almost covered by the grass. Its glow shows the metallic shine of fire extinguisher next to it bouncing the light back. I knew it was him!

South American guy! What are you doing lying there? Stop hiding for once for good sakes!

I shook him but he didn't moved. My frustration is getting worse as the voices of my chasers got closer and closer. I am tired of being lost and clueless to whatever curse is happening in this place and decided to hold my ground. I clenched my fists ready for a slugfest but my fingers felt slippery. They were wet.... in blood.

South American guy? Oh no...

He cannot stay with me, He had already left this world long ago.

I Stand Alone.

A body jumped on me and in the descent, ripped open my cheek. I staggered to keep myself on my feet and did a haymaker on the culprit but I only caught the air between us. They push me towards each other in organized chaos taking a bit or chunk of me in every turn. It felt like being torn apart by dogs.

I am so weak from the mauling and losing pints of my life blood that a blow on the back of my head kissed me to the ground.

From that moment I knew that my fight is over.

My body felt really really cold but my pain is going away, fading away. My eyes saw the partially illuminated face of the blonde as she greedily munch through, I guess, my insides and the increasing blur of my sight gave me a glimpse of how beautiful she once was and her friends, they too were human and like me a long time ago. I wonder what happened? I wonder... what.... happened...?

Give it a try man! It's a lot more interesting than those old books you can find all over in Cherno. You will enjoy it I promise you! There is plenty of time to read in the apocalypse.

I am currently making a Dayz based novel and this is just a sample of what I can do.

You should definitely write a book. This shit is gold,i enjoyed it.

(i didn't even want to read it but once i started i didn't want to stop)

EDIT: Would be nice if devs see this thread, maybe you can write some short stories for them that will actually be in-game as a few pages book you can loot and read.Would be so atmospheric to read it at night in-game while playing. It would be like a diary of survivors and their scary experiences who tried to survive and eventually died/turned zombies or experiences of survivors who tried to protect their family against zombies while being barricaded in the house
