Medkits Noob Question

Recommended Posts

Hello. :)

So, every time I find a new shirt, pair of pants, jacket, et cetera, I either rip it (or whatever it's replacing) into rags. I have over 40 bandages on me. It's silly.

Desperate for inventory space, I noticed that bandages could be drag-dropped onto item "Medkit."
I was under the impression that medkits would have their own 6-slot inventories for storing medical supplies. Yet I find that they can't be opened and I cannot remove my bandages.

So if I start bleeding, can I "equip" my medkit and get the "Bandage myself" option, as long as bandages are "in side" ? What about draw blood/epipen/et cetera? Does this 1 item add all of that to my context menu options? :)

(Oh and another question: What are the side-effects of ejecting myself with every epipen I find? So far I've taken 4 doses of it within an hour... and uh... I'm worried...)

Medkits are for storage to retain the items inside them you must remove from your inventory and place them on the ground.  Once on the ground if you scroll over it you will see all 6 slots with said items you have placed inside for use.  Move those items to your inventory and place the medkit back where it fits.

Regards,

Steak.

What steak said... but make sure your not in a control tower when you place it on the ground, and med kit disapears through floor, and you end up running around like a head less chook for a few minutes desperatly trying to find it.... not that thats happened to me   But you know, just in case.

Agreed, to stay safe I actually do not place any items on floors indoors anywhere I carry out everything outside in the street.

So, it IS a container, albeit an inconvenient one? So I should always keep some bandages in my pocket in case of emergency, and save the medkit for when I can really sit down and bandage up? Thanks Steak.

Precisely, I usually keep rags out in terms of bandages as you can stack them onto eachother in sets of 6 rags total that only take one inventory slot.

That's what I did at first, until I had 40+ rags and it was starting to get annoying

When you open your inventory, the box at the bottom (under your character) is what you are holding in your hands.

Press the red "X" in the corner of the "Hands" window if there is anything in there.

Drag the First Aid Kit into that window, you should now be holding it.

While you are holding the bag in your hands you can move stuff in and out of it. Saves you having to risk dropping it.

P.S.

If you have no room in your invintory and the thing in your hands isn't a weapon it may be dropped onto the ground at your feet.

You can link bandages from your medkit to your hotbar and once you put the medkit back in your inventory you can still use the bandages from your hotbar without taking them out of your medkit and having to have them in your main inventory. So they are pretty handy for saving space.

I know how the inventory works.

I just wanted to know how to open the First Aid Kit.

At this point. We can just put the kit in our hands and use bandages (or anything) inside it without physically removing it from the kit.  I had just started playing, like most everyone else, at the time of the OP, so if we could do it then, I did not yet know.  However, I have found this out recently; I did it once when I had no inventory slots yet and had a kit in my hands waiting until I found a backpack.  I have done it since then too with plenty of pack space.  I used to take bandages out of my kit to use easily, not anymore since I learned this.
