113772, thirst still not fixed

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to help you, not saying that it's something that shouldn't be fixed. Go find a water pump (if you can't find one then you're really not trying) and drink a lot from it. If you really want I'll come on whatever server you're on and give you a water bottle if you're still having problems with that

At this point I'm waiting for a friend to be able to meet up. I actually collected some decent things including empty bottles and am ok with laying unconscious until they can force feed some water down my throat. I thought I read that was possible, but not sure. Also, I found a water pump but there wasn't any animation or feedback to tell me if I was actually drinking anything. Hit it four or five times before I assumed it wasn't doing anything and moved on. Can you now drink from one without a bottle or was my day one experience correct that I was already drinking from it but no animations or feedback are in game yet? I couldn't tell from the notes Rocket posted whether that and the force feed was live or in testing.

If this were even close to the truth of the several lives I've lived I wouldn't be so bothered by it. Spawned in Kamenka, found absolutely nothing in any house I searched, went unconscious and died halfway through Komarovo after the two drinks I found did nothing. Respawned near Elektro, found more Payday masks then drinks. Once my vision went blurry I never found enough food or drink to stop it. Went unconscious and died searching houses for more drinks. Respawned near Balota, found nothing to drink went unconscious near the apartments north of the airfield less than an hour after spawning. Gonna stay logged out and unconscious until they patch it and I can get a friend to come force feed me something.

There's also a very valid point to a person finding that the Alpha they bought is not just an Alpha but completely unplayable and wanting to complain. Alpha should not have the chance for a person to spawn and have zero chance of surviving their first hour when they are not even playing the game but desperately searching for drinks the entire time. If you lucked out and found enough to drink, great. If you spent your entire life not finding enough to keep yourself alive more than an hour I think that's a valid complaint. I'm not even mad, just bummed that it wasn't released in a playable state. Looking forward to some kind of update on this one so I can play my favorite game.

You didn't 'buy' the alpha. The alpha isn't for sale. You pre-ordered the full release and as an extra incentive they allowed you to access the game in it's alpha state to help test. Nobody actually owes you anything and you aren't deserving of anything until the full game releases. Items along the coast will be more plentiful as the next few days go by. The problem right now is that most people don't understand how to survive and so they're either too scared to leave the coast or they're all running up the east or west sides of the map. Personally, I've had great luck surviving by just spawning, finding some approximate northern direction, and running until I find some buildings. The towns in the center of the map are the least rummaged through and thus have the best chance of good loot.

"My thirst is quenched" is not the same thing as "I can't drink any more."

Let me pull some numbers out of my butt for an example.

Hunger and thirst are on a 1-100 scale. You lose one point per minute.

You start at 25. You start getting warnings at 20.

Five minutes into the game, you get to 20 thirst and start getting warnings. You find a well and drink from it, getting 5 thirst back. Now you have 25 thirst. Your thirst has been "quenched", i.e. you are no longer getting warnings. But five minutes later your thirst drops back down below the threshold, you have warnings again and rage.

What you SHOULD do is:

Start at 25, find a well, drink over and over until it starts giving you warnings like "my stomach feels completely full." Now your thirst is at 100 and you have an hour or two before you start getting thirsty again.

All these numbers are made-up but the game mechanics are real.

Five minutes later, you are back to 20

Your day one experience was correct, you couldn't drink from a well before the update. Now you can though, and if you just drink from it like 20-30 times (takes like 10 seconds, not an animation or anything) you should be good with thirst for about an hour or so.
