Obsolescence 129 Posted December 17, 2013 I can't seem to figure out how to find enough food to survive. If I spend all my time rooting through cherno or something I might not starve to death, but I still can't find enough food to feel comfortable just trekking off into the wilderness. Maybe if I could eat my beans without a can opener, but relying on rotten fruit has proved disastrous. Don't get me wrong, I'm still having fun starting new characters and causing trouble, but I don't seem to have any hope of surviving more than an hour or so without losing my vision and then going unconscious due to starvation, and sometimes dehydration. Am I missing something? Can we even hunt animals (are there any)? Is there a farm with plants growing that I just don't know about? TLDR: Have you found enough food to survive more than an hour or so, and if so, how and where do you find this magical sustenance?
muggerfugger (DayZ) 35 Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) I'd suggest finding a can of beans, one can of soda, and head north to where there isnt much population, i found there to be much more loot. I have no trouble finding loot. I've ran all the way to NWAF to Cherno, and back up to NEAF without any problem. I think your character will complain long before you ever die. Mine was pretty much going through menopause, and lived. edit:I'd stay away from those huge apartment complexes. I can't find anything in those. Stay with houses and the smaller buildings. Karmaterror 982 Posted December 17, 2013 I think this is down to loot not respawning and the food/drink being set a bit too fast. Soon as loot respawns ya should be finding enough stuff, and appearntly some foods actually dehydrate ya ;)
Obsolescence 129 Posted December 17, 2013 Does it matter if you run/walk? Cause I just run everywhere by default but I could walk if I knew it would keep me rested.

You just have to eat and drink a LOT.
mercules 1290 Posted December 17, 2013 Step One: GET THE HELL OFF THE COAST!Step Two: loot all those towns that have items in them because everyone else is hanging out around the coast.
Owain1122 218 Posted December 17, 2013 Got more food than I can handle! I left cherno with a few tins and canteens! Then trekked for nearly an hour getting lost in the woods looking for an airfield. Finally got there after raiding a village. In that cillage I found 3 cans of sardines in one room and a box of cereal in another!
muggerfugger (DayZ) 35 Posted December 17, 2013 I always run :P It should use up more energy and such, but you'll get futher, so it probably all balances out.

kichilron 8550 Posted December 17, 2013 Yeah but how did you open the cans? I still have yet to find a can opener... You can open the cans of tuna without a canopener and eat the cereal directly out the box. Cooking rice seems to be working fine. I believe the canopener is supposed to be rare to add something to the game that makes it harder to survive. :)

Batlan 2 Posted December 17, 2013 I spent quite alot time on my first character to scavenge along the coast and didn't have much luck finding anything useful. After couple deaths I decided to run straight towards north and found fresh fruits, canned food, a can opener and other goodies after about 20 mins of running. Then again as there seem to be quite many people filling up all servers and the items apparently respawning only during reset, I might've been just very lucky.
