Obsolescence 129 Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) It was an inky black night with a full moon when I spawned in at the airfield, ran to the Cherno apartment buildings and found two guys running around with flashlights in their hands, geared up with backpacks, axes, crowbars, and motorcycle helmets... "HELLO," I called out, "I only have a flashlight, please don't kill me". They accepted me as one of their own, and off our little troupe went, three flashlights bobbing in the distance. Suddenly we ran up on a stranger and there was tension in the air, but he spoke with his mic and was pleasant. He joined our group and off we went again in search of treasure and loot, four flashlights bobbing in the distance. However, I was beginning to get bored with the comradery and plotted to kill them all. I knocked one of them unconscious with the only weapon I had, my fists, and in the ensuing confusion I stole his wrench and equipped it. He was screaming over his mic for his friend to "give me the axe," but in the darkness there was no way to tell who was who. And so, with a smile on my face and a song in my heart, I bludgeoned the other two to death as well. Then I stole everything I could carry and buried the rest. Checking that they could still hear me over Direct Chat, I introduced them to one of our communities' most popular phrases... "WELCOME TO DAYZ!!!" And with that, off I ran into the surrounding wilderness with full packs and pockets of pilfered goods, and only one flashlight bobbing in the distance =) Edited December 17, 2013 by Obsolescence
Korsbaek 1778 Posted December 17, 2013 This is the banditry I like. Nice :)
Kawllie 18 Posted December 17, 2013 And this is why we don't accept strangers into our groups, Billy!
Obsolescence 129 Posted December 17, 2013 Thanks for the beans! I love all the new people flooding in. It's great to remind people how vicious strangers in this game can be.
mercules 1290 Posted December 17, 2013 Yup, you're an ass. I mean that in the nicest of ways. Which is why we don't trust strangers. A guy with an M4 ran into my friend who told him he was friendly and noted that he had a shovel and a flashlight. The guy decided not to kill him and told him where he saw an ax. He wanted to tag along when my friend mentioned he was looking to meet up with us and my friend told him nicely that it wasn't going to happen simply because.... well... the above tale is exactly why that isn't going to happen. :)
hogscraper 328 Posted December 17, 2013 Betrayal is always the easiest choice and a sign of weakness. A real homicidal bandit would have hunted them in the dark and smashed their heads in from behind. Instead of an adrenaline fueled story of epic murder in the night they will tell of yet another Dayz loser going for the easy kill. Instead of delicious panic you settled for baloney and cheese. Congratulations.

Congratulations. Sure, a sign of weakness, I'll own that. I was weak. I only had my fists to fight with against 3 survivors with weapons. I had to knock one to the ground, steal his weapon, kill the other 2 and come back for the first one before he got back on his feet. Besides, betrayal teaches new DayZ players the most important lesson of all - never trust strangers. If anything I did them a favor in the long run. They'll thank me later when they have actual gear to lose :P

Did you really just say that sucker punching someone isn't weak?I'm not against banditry because bandits help hero's do what they do best. What you did was the Dayz equivalent of the Knock Out Game.
Fortune_Finder 33 Posted December 17, 2013 Not sure if this deserves my beans or not, since I usually play as a hero.

If betraying a person's trust is cowardice then I'm as much a coward as Han Solo and Luke Skywalker when they dressed up in stormtrooper outfits to save princess Leia. I'm sure Darth Vader would have called them cowards too. Funny how relative it all is, no? Given, I wasn't trying to save anyone else from death or torture, I was just trying to save myself the time of having to collect all that gear by hand. Also, I just wanted to see if these three muppets would just allow me to beat them all to death like Antarctic seals. Answer: yes.

Answer: yes.Really don't think that reference relates to banditry at all but that's my thoughts. Personally though that is pretty cheap and it's a lazy way to do things if anything. Nothing wrong with that because it is after all human nature is to capitalize on opportunity but I just don't really find it to be very respectable on the bandit side of things. Lol but then again what bandit has morals anyway. Edited December 17, 2013 by FireMedic772

Since you want to use Star Wars it would be more like if Han and Luke decided to gang rape Leia after they grouped up with her. Semantics can't hide your weakness. Carry on bandit wannabe. Sensemann 145 Posted December 18, 2013 I managed to go bandit as well last night. After looting Cherno and literally haven't found anything valuable except some food, clothes and a knife, I decided to head north. I am seeing 2 guys with rifles and they seemed to be well equipped in general. After establishing contact with them from cover, I told them I am unarmed and new to the game and asked if they can help me find some food. They agreed and took me north of Cherno to the new apartment complex. Since we heard shots in Cherno itself, I suggested we loot 3 different buildings at the same time and meet in front of the buildings in 15 minutes. I found handcuffs, a pistol with one mag, some food and drinks. So we meet up again and again we hear shooting so we run together into the forest and discuss what we have found and to trade our loot. I told them that I only found food and handcuffs. "Cool" one of the survivors said. "I really want to test those out"."Not on me, since I heard stories of people betraying each other. I am willing to drop them on the ground and you can have them. Just don't shoot me".So I drop the handcuffs on the ground and stand there without anything in my hands. The one guy picks up the handcuffs and tells me to stay where I am while he is handcuffing his buddy. I must assume he went to his control settings to figure out how to do, so I quickly put my pistol into my hands. Finally I see them going through the animation process and just to reconfirm, I ask: "And? Does it work? Any special button to press?""Yeah well, it's so cool they implemented this. My buddy wants to test how long it takes him to free himself".I reply: "We'll never know". Then I shot that guy down, his buddy slowly walking away from me. "I assume sprinting with handcuffs is difficult, huh?". Then I knocked him out with my fists. I stole everything useful out of them and ran into the apartment buildings to see if they come back. After 20 minutes I gave up and left. It's good to see friendlies are around and usually I am friendly as well. But I love exploiting ignorance and goodwill in this game. If they don't learn caution through me, some of you bandits will teach them. I prefer my way as it fills my backpack. :D
