ALERT: DayZ - US 104 Chicago Possible Abusive Admin

Recommended Posts

I was playing in this server last night, around 8:30pm Chicago time.

15 minutes or so into my game time, I suddenly died. No zombies, no gunshots, no nothing. Then all of a sudden on chat everyone started complaining, basically shouting "WHAT?!" or "What happened?!" At this time, I thought that everyone was killed.

Then all of a sudden the server "Lost Session".

Well, I went into another server and sure enough, I had to start all over again.

Shortly before everyone in the server was slain and disconnected, BattleEye said that an admin logged in named "Metamorphosis".

If the server owners, or even hosting company could look into this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Server admins do not have the ability to mass kill people, kill individuals, teleport, alter items, etc.

This was the work of somebody using scripts or hacks.

Ok, but would the scripts or hacks be able to shut the server down immediately after? After we died, there was about a 20 second gap before the server got shut down for a while.

If one has the rcon password they can. It could have also also been a timeout with the hive. With everybody dying like that and probably recreating characters, it probably choked the server until it caught up with itself.

If the server was only down for 20 seconds, I doubt it was a reboot. It normally takes 30 seconds to 1 minute to do a full restart. Plus the mission would have started over again.

My bet is on the server having to communicate with the hive for all the new player and death requests.

The server wasn't down for 20 seconds, it had to have been more than that as I was trying to look for it again for about an hour. But I don't know the exact downtime.

I was saying that it was 20 seconds from when we died, until disconnect.

I know recently with player deaths the hatchet ammo has been causing the servers to crash to an exception. This could have been the case and the admin didn't check his server until an hour or so later.

This is possible. I also wouldn't pin the blame on a server admin yet until there are more details. More often than not it's the work of a hacker. Unless the admin himself is using scripts, which I highly doubt.

I agree that it could be a cheater/hacker/script kiddy, but it's just a bit suspicious that the admin logs on, then shortly afterwards everyone dies and the server disconnects the people.

Hence why I asked if a server owner or the host or whoever has the powers to do so, to look into it.

Granted, I didn't have a LOT of stuff, but it's disheartening to know that someone has the capability to ruin the game like this, more than people who just spawn items.

There is no admin abuse, lulz. "I" took the server down to "try" to save everyone before the nukes went off, but failed to take it down in time. I have to log into the remote desktop, so the nukes went off first before I was able. I got reports from players within wolvesofwar.org community and people that play on our server as regulars that there was a problem, possible hacker.

"I" complained to the "higher ups" but they could care less. I barely got any responses on how to log such an event, and to report it. A couple good apples in there, but most of them are sitting on their throne caring less about one hack on a couple of servers. They'll just ban the person responsible, and move on. Like we should.

I lost everything in that nuke. I wouldn't doubt if I was shortly behind the top 10 longest alive. So yeah, I really wanted to nuke myself. Metamorphosis is an administrator in WolvesofWar.org, very nice guy. We just installed BEC to help control the traffic more and kick idle lobbying.

It's a hack, I personally have been killed by hackers 3 times on us 104 chicago. Idk what the server hosters did to these hackers, but they are pissed and seem to constantly attack that server. I now stay clear.

OK both times you "couldn't make it in time" to prevent a hacker from killing everyone in the server?

I saw another post about this happening today apparently, and an admin was "working on it".

Sorry, I'm not buying your story. If an admin knows something catastrophic is about to happen, you should probably pull the plug immediately.

An admins inability to react swiftly when they know something is up will not only lead to the decline of your servers but the community as a whole. The devs shouldn't be the only ones responsible for when things go wrong.

You KNEW there was a nuke about to go off, but still let it happen anyway.

Hacker or not, if you read the other posts and other thread, the admins knew about it and didn't shut down the server to prevent the nukes from going off. They just "tried" to fix the issue, but only let the nukes go off.

lol blow me, I didn't know anything. I was finding out from others players messaging me, you're talking a matter of seconds, and it takes time to log in remote desktop to shut the server down, and I didn't even know if it was going on, had to check logs first because arma 2 is a HORRIBLE game.

Go ahead and play somewhere else, I'm not your slave and your attitude is horrible, when myself and clan members also died in that bullshit.

If you want to cry to someone, cry to rocket, because he and his team has the power to give you your stuff back.

Most server admins are volunteering their money & time you ungrateful dick.

It is clear you don't run a server and have no idea what it entails.

We don't run the server's off our desktops. We have dedicated machines to do that. We have to log into those machines to be able to switch the server off. This can take anything from 10 seconds to a minute, on average, sometimes longer if you're using the internet for something else, like a download.

We can't just hear something, go 'oh shit' and press the big red button on our PCs.

Move on to another server, see if they put up with your accusatory and entitled crap.

OP, it's people like YOU who sours the server admins.

I do it out of the kindness of my heart. Most people understand that. Then you get people like yourself, who want to act like entitled little brats and give server admins a hard time.

Stop being an asshole and rather be grateful we run servers in the first place.

OH MY GOD!

ARE YOU FUCKING HIGH???

Do you think anyone sits on these servers 24/7 watching over the server console?

Puh-leese.

The people that can afford to provide these servers for your empty-headed entertainment are working at JOBS and doing other PRODUCTIVE things. That's why they have the MONEY to pay for the server that you are over here falsely tattling on.

You don't even know how the mod works at a server level, yet you level these accusations and INSIST AFTER a reasonable explanation is provided.

You see an admin connect, and something happens, and it's immediately the admin's fault.... Correlation does not prove causation. Believe it....

I'm so tired of people just assuming that admins have these amazing powers when it's been stated over and over again that they do not.

Then, of course, they run to these forums to tattle like little school yard kids... they know that much.

Argh.

Ahem.

/rant.

Seriously, dude. I don't like letting him out. It sounds like they did everything that they could, but like, those guys have jobs and stuff. Sounds like it was lucky that they got to the console at all, thanks to some alert community member knowing who to contact.

Are you an idiot or just blissfully ignorant? Being logged into the game server is not the same as logging into the physical server to switch off the server.

It's two separate things.

Educate yourself, or GTFO.

He logged into the game, then he had to minimize and use remote desktop to log into the physical server so he could restart the server.

So from that quote, you got that he was already logged in...

When he CLEARLY said he was logging into the remote desktop...and then the nukes went off before he was able to get on.

I think maybe YOU should learn how to read there champ.

Because clearly, you're an idiot that accuses people before he gets his facts straight.
