Backpack Access Requests

Recommended Posts

So, just a little cool story bro in a fail greentext format:

> enter house

> guy inside

> try to talk to him in chat

> can see him moving a little (head, not feet) but still not speaking

> thinking he's trying to figure out how to chat

> turn back to him as I look out window for any approaching zeds

> in 3rd person, see him come up from behind me

> turn around and attempt communication again

> still doesn't say anything

> I say my goodbyes and leave

> 5 minutes later, think about why he was acting strange

> realise the subtle movements might have been him trying to aim at my backpack while I'm facing him

> realise him coming up behind me was to again open my backpack

> look in inventory and see nothing missing

> learnt to be more cautious in terms of radius to strangers

My point is: have an accept/deny command for when someone else tries to access your inventory.

I disagree with an accept/deny to backpack access (don't nerf PvP interactions just because some people don't like the risk of stealing). BUT, how about a different sound and a delay when someone is trying to get into it. That way you have an opportunity to understand that someone is trying to access your backpack.

^ works for me. I just want -something- to notify me that someone is currently in my inventory.

i do like the idea but, i have an improvement.

> have the allow/deny prompt for people accesing your backpack for friends etc.

> but if their is no response within a time limit you should be able to go through the pack, this allows still the idea of theft if an inactive player is there or you are not seen.

You mean like a friends list with set permissions, i.e. John can access my bag freely, Jack must ask? That was actually my first idea but thought it would be a little too much to ask for so started with suggesting a simple accept/deny function for each time someone tries to access.

As for your second point, I was also thinking maybe having NO accept/deny request if you're accessing the bag from the back (outside of a player's LOS). At least this way it's waaay more realistic and if you're with a stranger, you'd naturally be wary of their movements and want to keep an eye on them every now and then anyway.
