I know its been discussed alot but, note book?

Recommended Posts

I know this has been suggested tons of times and its always the same thing, "lets have note books to write on and leave notes everywhere!!1!"

Well I would love to see something like this. Just a small notebook/diary that you can tear pages out and leave them lying about (or maybe use the duct tape that you see laying around everywhere in the mod to tape the notes up?) Now to the part that worries me the most about this, The trolls that will leave 10000000 notes EVERYWHERE, Make it to were your notebook/diary will only have about 4 to 5 pages. Also add into loot tables for pens/pencils so people cant just spawn and start leaving notes around (could add degradation to pencils/pens.). This will limit people from wasting the hell out of them and limit the trolls.

Now on to why this will be useful.

-Point people to important things, for say, If I am a hero I can leave note taped to trees to worn the poor noobs to avoid a area. If I escape from a sniper in NWAF I can leave a note on the barracks door warning people of the sniper(s).

-For the lulz, "DONT LOOK BEHINED YOU".

-Leave a tent with medical and food, post a note there and let people know that you left it there and maybe they would spare you later down the road if they have you in cuffs and asking your name?

-For the bandits that want to set traps.

Im sure I can think of more, but im ready for sleep. I would pay dean any amount under $500 to add this feature into the game. I think it would be awesome.

In all honesty I don't think the ability to leave notes will be abused by players to such an extent that it will justify not implementing this pretty decent idea.

Say you are running through the supermarket you see a note. You pick it up and it reads, "8=====D~~~." Is that really going to throw you off so that your game is broken?

One of the things I want to do in SA is to keep a running journal on my character throughout his life. Nothing complex or jaw droppingly poetic, just little blurbs about where I went, what I did, some shit that went down during the day, what state am I in, maybe some coords of tents, cars, or nice loot areas. Now imagine coming across my body for whatever reason and going over my pages of notes. Talk about some player created content.

Two solutions that might make both parties happy:

1. Put journals in one of the alpha builds, and see what happens. If its unbearable take it out, we learned our lesson, move on.

2. Make so you can't remove pages. I'd still like to see journals as a carryable, writable object that can only be read in its entirety.

Yes, we should be able to write journals, and when we die they drop on death for other players to read!!

This is another idea that I fucking love. I think it would be one of the greatest things about the game.. Coming across someones body with a notebook and being able to read about their life. Maybe have a feature to take in game screen shots and clip them to your notebook.

Or, everyone has a personal journal you can copy and give to others, or let others read it, or make blurbs and notes in it!

Good idea, don't filter out the swear words though, like "fuck","shit" and other vulgar expressions, those are commonly used by role-players like "Fuck, I think I aggro those zeds". Also, there are so many ways to write stupid shit, it'll be impossible to completely filter them out from the game. I think Rocket should hire 100 internet virgin alpha no-life 4chan-dwelling trolls and 12 years old kids and ask them to write as many retarded words they can think of and then filter out those words.

I know in Project Zomboid they have something similar to this, but the only problem is that you can't read what those notes say.

I'd like it if there were 2 ways to do it, such as this..

  • While writing, you can see your character jotting down notes, which appears in scribbles in view but when selecting "read" .. Your character will describe what recent actions have happened throughout the course (Perhaps something like in a 20 min gap from past-present)
  • You have an option to type these notes. Not sure how it'd go for vulgarity.

It is a nice idea IMO despite the potential trolls.

But i have a feeling the only people who would use this seriously is hardcore roleplayers.

He said something about sticking labels on objects.

I wouldn't mind pasting my name on my gun, or what type of drug I have stored in a syringe.

A note affront the base.

So you know a little bit about the people your stealing from...

Would you steal from a group of heros?

Note the location of a car and what you need to get it working.

Etc etc.

Put on the car where you found it, maybe everybody can do that and there'd be a long list of all the locations and groups that one car had been with.
