todd10k 87 Posted November 14, 2013 You're acting like they haven't done anything because there isn't a hundred guns in the game yet, when in reality most of the work is probably put into fixing up a lot of the issues with the Arma II engine, reworking the AI and polishing it, which is pretty much all backend stuff you won't be able to see from a screenshot. Unless they are doing guns wrong, it should be pretty much tedious C&P work to add new ones anyway. Enlighten me, C&P? Also I get there the other guy is coming from when he says that he doesn't want to play an alpha with 3 guns, but at the same time i also get where you're coming from too. I think what it boils down to for me is how much i'm willing to overlook when it comes to the alpha. The 3 guns issue is probably his line in the sand, so to speak. ratiasu@hotmail.co.jp 122 Posted November 14, 2013 To each their own. I'd rather not play an alpha with 2 guns. That's all I'm saying. If you're wondering why there are so few guns, I think it's because the modelers for them also work on other items, of which there will be several hundreds at Alpha release. A lot of these items are needed to test new mechanics (crafting, etc.) and as such get priority over weaponry of which they won't need a lot of feedback/testing anyways. It's not like they have people working SPECIFICALLY on weapons. I too was disappointed, but no way it kills my hype to play alpha. Not to mention I'm sure they'll add more in a matter of weeks after release.

Again, you don't have to play the alpha, but don't say nothing has progressed simply because there is a lack of guns. mercules 1290 Posted November 14, 2013 They can't just toss in the guns from ARMA II and/or III. Here is what they did that is going to make things better in the future but slim picking right now. Every item in the game is a "vehicle". This means it can be a container and things put into it can modify it's look and operation. That means that the characters can have different pants, shirts, hats, and more. Before outfits were a skin change which either allowed the backpack to show or not. Now the player is a "vehicle" and can have different items that allow different things. Armored Vests can help protect you as can helmets. Guns are the same. You can attach a scope to a gun and then use it. You can attach a different grip to it, you can attach a laser pointer, you can attach a flash or sound suppressor, you can attach a flashlight, and more. So they had to build a system where all these attachments can be added to the weapon, modify it's actions, and be rendered properly. We will no longer find an M4A1, M4A1 CCO, M4A1 CCO SD, or M4A1 Camo. We will find an M4A1 and the different attachments and be able to customize that gun to what we prefer if we find the right things. So 1 gun is actually the same as the 6 or 7 guns in the Mod that are all M4s but are "different" because they have a different sight or stock or a flashlight. However, setting up the 1 gun required more work than setting up the 6 or 7 guns because it has MORE iterations and is now more like 12 different guns from various combinations.
Merrick362 (DayZ) 263 Posted November 16, 2013 ALPHALPHALHPALPHALPHALPHALPHALPHALPHALPHALPHALPHALPHALPHALPHA.Do you remember how buggy the BF3 closed and open betas were? Yeah. This is going to be an Alpha. As in less than a beta. As in trying to get basic game architecture running, and not working on gameplay mechanics yet.
