Server restarts...

Recommended Posts

How often should a server restart?

I was watching some older DayZ vids and they were taking about servers only restarting once a month. The also said servers that restarted once a week or once a day are restarting too often.

We talking mod or standalone?

For the mod its recommended that servers are restarted every 3 hours. thats for a busy 40-50 pop server.

Why so often tho?

I just think less often would maybe add some more realism. Dead bodies everywhere ad etc.

After about 3 hours a busy server will often start to experience bad dsync and lag, the reset cleans the server of all unnecessary objects,

Its not by design, its just necessary due to how Arma servers work, Arma was never designed with the idea of persistent missions like dayz.

The standalone should be much better though.

the newer dayz mods added a ton more server side stuff that server restarts help clear up and get back working..

think of it as a new server every 3 hours.. cleans up all the old garbage.

its kind of annoying having to logout n wait, but whateva.. hopefully SA doesnt have this issue. but im braced for it having to have something similar to keep the game working smoothly
