DayZ Epoch - What is it about?

I hope this is the right section, couldn't find any other more appropriate.
I'm not looking for answers such as: Look at the mod forum, it's a mod, it's dayz modded.
I've already checked the website and it still didn't inform me that much.

What I would like to know is, how is the PvP on that mod, does it depend on the servers?

 

I've heard there's a crafting system and base building, how easy is it to do, how do you do it, is it practical?

I've noticed in a few videos people have ounces of gold and you can use it to buy something for it and you can get gold at trader outposts? How does that work, are the traders randomly placed around the map, ARE there multiple traders, what's the money equivalent, like how many pieces of gold will you get from selling a makarov and how many pieces of gold will you need to buy a DMR?

I also saw there are some really sweet cars in the mod such as BMW's and such, are there any more of the sort?

Is it too modern? For example are there still plenty of zombies and PvP elements in the game? Because I would love to be able to build my own base and have some regular zombie or pvp combat action.

No i find it a little too much for me but for most it is just base building and trading. Its more wasteland than a zombie survival..

Ah, just what I had feared... Thanks for the information, I'll be sure to steer clear of it then, do you perhaps know of any mods that offer base building and trading including more of a zombie / pvp kind of gamemode?

I wouldn't take one person's advice before overlooking this mod. It's obviously the most popular of dayz mods atm for a reason. I think it depends greatly on the server you play on. If you can find a local, well populated, PvP orientated server, you're sure to have fun!

Yeah I've tried it just now because I've gotten bored. Lots of killing and some friendly banter and I've experienced some of the trading done and earning gold which I now somewhat understand, but how do you build bases? Is there any detailed guide on it?

Epoch is awesome and intresting, It has a currency system so you can buy anything from weapons, vehicles to building materials for bases.

 

It's also very frustrating when some twat robs you when you go to a trader :( It gives you something to do rather in Dayz again rather than just shoot zeds and people, try it, it's addictive :D

Just visit the wiki and search YouTube for some tutorials. It's all pretty self explanatory once you know the basics.
