Arma 2 running problems.

Hi guys, iv been wanting to play DayZ for a while now and decided to buy the combined ops pack to play the mod whilst waiting for the standalone, so i downloaded the demo and it played at 50-60fps with everything high so i thought that i was okay.

Just now tried the OA game and i have really bad 25-30fps and lower in the town.

Dont really know whats wrong, i know the demo is not the same as the release but i thought they werent too far apart.

At the minute im playing Metro Last Light with everything medium/high at a steady 30-35 fps so my pc should handle this perfectly.

Had a quick look around and tried a few tips on the internet to no avail.

So my question is, will DayZ play just as bad?

 

My set up isnt the best but it is surprisingly ok for games like Bioshock Infinite, Dishonored and it runs Skyrim on high at 45-50 fps!

 

AMD Athlon II X2 220 OC to 3.69GHZ

Nvidia GTS 250 1GB

Windows 7

4GB Ram.

 

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Your specs aren't really the best. That's one factor you have to keep in mind. Maybe even start thinking about an upgrade for yourself.

Aye, that GPU is limiting you severely, that needs an upgrade.

 

If you can't upgrade, try turning Anti-Aliasing and Post-Process effects off.

Yeah i appreciate that it is an low end system but like i said i play most games in some way shape or form at playable fps.

Assassins Creed III which a poorly optimized console port i get 30-35 fps on mostly high/medium, and Metro is a game with a lot more clout in visuals and the PhysX system and i play that??

The demo ran at a steady 60fps on every thing very high even when looking over the land with the draw distance fairly high, hence why i bought the combined ops pack.

 But the bizarre thing is that i can crank DayZ down to low/very low and it still chugs at 30fps, there's not really increase in fps.

But i will try those tips you linked me to.

HMMMM given this lots of thought.

Ok situation is that after the tweaks that were shown to me the performance skyrocketed on the vanilla games, arma 2 plays on very high at 50-55fps, OA plays at high/normal at 40-45fps BUT DayZ runs at 20-25fps on very low!

Am i missing something here, fair enough you can expect a drop for DayZ what will all the items it spawns but a half drop on the LOWEST settings, this is madness.

So because i only brought the pack for DayZ as military shooter are a dime a dozen and hold no interest for me i feel like i wasted my money.

Im determined to play it so if i wait for the SA is there a chance that it will be better optimized etc?

Really depends on what you're playing. Are you only testing on one server? Are you playing Vanilla DayZ (1.8.0.3)?

 

If you're playing Vanilla DayZ on a server, that's restarting regularly you shouldn't experience frames like that.

 

On Epoch or in the middle of Cherno however - that's a different story. 25 FPS is pretty good for Epoch, for example.

Oh........20-30 FPS is good. It's only worthwile postong if you get 8-16 FPS.

2) DayZ mod is a lot more intensive than ArmA II because there are masses of AI calculations to be carried out by your CPU etc.

 

I wouldn't recommend playing ArmA II or DayZ mod with those specs, it isn't likely to be an enjoyable experience.

No i mean Arma II the FULL game.

OK fair enough but again it plays OA at 40-45fps AND in the normal world of pc gaming when you adjust the specs up or down it should affect fps but i can run it at very high at 20-22fps and very low at 25fps!!!

This is just beyond my level of comprehension, so i repeat will the SA be better optimized!

Well - we're not saying, that your specs are "shit" and that it would be your fault. It is fact, that ARMA 2 is poorly optimized. And that's not your fault. It has to do with the fact, that it barely uses your graphicscard, but a lot of your CPU. And your CPU sadly isn't the best. That means that you will most likely be able to play recent games on a good level - yet Arma is going to lag a tad and especially modded content like DayZ is.

 

By the way: I think you haven't told us yet what you're actually playing. Like I stated already - if you're playing Epoch it wouldn't surprise me when you stay at 20 FPS even with WAY better specs and a lot of optimization.

 

If you have 1.8.0.3 DayZ downloaded join US 1503 or EU2419, as I'm running them and I can assure you, that they're running smoothly at steady 60 FPS. Just to eliminate your FPS-issues aren't caused by the servers.

Yeah sorry justy reread that it sounded abit like a rant which i am against so again apologize.

Im playing the DayZ Mod 1.8.0.3 and before it crashed last it was actually running at 40-42 fps on that particular server so i will try the ones you suggested.

Okey just joined the EU2419 server and amazingly got an average of 43fps on mostly high but a few things on normal and PPA disable and AA disabled, but then it crashed again, have you any experience with  the "ARMA II: OA Has Stopped Working" Problem before?

This is wrong,  the CPU is limiting the performance in this build. I have a similar setup (Athlon II X2 240 OC @ 3,2Ghz, AMD Radeon HD5750 @750Mhz/1200Mhz, 8GB RAM) and changed the GFX card once to my old Radeon HD4650. The result: I had nearly the same fps.

As long as he doesn't play on 60/60 servers, he should be fine. Only Cherno and Elektro can get a bit problematic - all this only in DayZ though. Standard Arma2 missions, including massive MP missions like Domination and Wasteland always run without problems on my PC with 40-60fps.

Haha yeah sorry for that, followed instructions but i cant find the right beta patch for me it either says wrong cd key or that im using a newer version?

Right o fps problem sorted by joining EU2419 Server and it has stopped crashing so im very happy, just wish i could stop dying :)

Unfortunately it now keeps freezing up on your server and on the press start servers.

In half a mind to wait for the SA now really as iv played an hour of it uninterrupted and i love the gameplay, just wish i can play!

Will try again another time i think.
