Idea to improve survival odds

Recommended Posts

Cool, let's keep on playing with words. First, let me show you exactly what I said.

Don't like this. = Don't like this idea.

Spawning with no weapon at all makes you really appreciate the first hatchet/crowbar/bat you find. = No starting weapon at all is good.

Also spawning with any kind of police/military gear makes no sense. = ALSO, ANY KIND of police/military/tactical/professional/high end gear would make no sense being in the pockets of a castaway.

Get it? No? I'm not talking exclusively about the maglight in that last sentence. That's why I'm using "any kind". You lost the whole point of the thread, you misinterpreted my last sentence, you tried being a smartass, all that for what?

Lastly, anyone can buy professional grade (hinged smith&wesson) handcuffs. This means they are not police gear by your logic, right? Sweet.

The manner in which you wrote can be easily misunderstood. This is why they teach English and have Writing courses in school.

"Don't like this."

This is how bad actors portray those who do not speak English well or are dumb. I mean it is an Imperative Sentence where the subject is implied, but it is still poor English.

I get what you are saying in the last sentence but the implication was that the Mag-lite is the implied subject, much like "I" in the first sentence where you left the implied subject out. I get that you are not talking about the maglite "exclusively" but you are still lumping it into the category of "Military/Police Gear" which it is not. It is civilian gear that the police happen to also use... like shoes, leather belts, hats, belt loops, zip-ties, and... do I have to go on?

@Mercules. You should be more thoughtful. You wouldnt stop a charging, rabid man with one hit even in a skull. It is fucking short for a melee weapon comparing to hatchet or sword or axe or whatever. You would use long shit so you wouldnt get your hands bitten and it deliveres more power by the laws of physics. Again, where would you take your baton torch from when you get off the sea. Police at my place uses gum or wooden batons not fancy flashlights and I dont think Chernarussia is a rich western country to use them by law enforcements. So no where to find them.

Im pretty sure a steel pipe would crush your head easier than your flaslighty.

Rofl, you're one of a kind. I thought this whole debate was about my third sentence, the one containing the "police/military gear" part. Now you have a problem with the "Don't like this." part and you are critising my syntax? Smooth move.

I get what you are saying in the last sentence but the implication was that the Mag-lite is the implied subject, much like "I" in the first sentence where you left the implied subject out.

So "any kind of police/military gear" means "the maglight" in your book. Your brain, your rules. Just don't expect others to agree.

I get that you are not talking about the maglite "exclusively" but you are still lumping it into the category of "Military/Police Gear" which it is not. It is civilian gear that the police happen to also use... like shoes, leather belts, hats, belt loops, zip-ties, and... do I have to go on?

Let's quote someone.

The 4 D-Cell to 6 D-Cell is often used by law enforcement as an alternate to a baton. In some locations you can be fined for carrying larger thant he 2 D-Cell ones because they make such good clubs.

So it's civilian gear which is used all over the world by police/security officers etc. Right. Oh and btw although it's civilian equipment, civilians are not allowed to carry it or they get a fine. Fine by me, keep contradicting yourself. I can do this all night long.

The flashlight is a solid tube of anodized aluminum, you know that stuff they make baseball bats out of. A 6 D-cell version is about 3.5 pounds. An Asp Baton of comparable size weight about half that which means it will move faster but deliver about the same amount of damage and that is a professional striking weapon. Officers sometimes carry this light instead of an Asp Baton. That is 20" or so of aircraft grade aluminum that weighs more than the typical baseball bat which is about 3 pounds.

Ehem... You are not allowed to carry the larger ones in some locations because they are considered weapons. The, "Not a Dagger, not a dirk." law in California makes it illegal to carry a SCREWDRIVER in your pocket because it is "A ridged object greater in length than 6" with a tapered/sharp point, or cutting edge." Most places you can wander around with one no questions asked but in some locations they have made them illegal because they have made anything that could be used as a bonafide weapon illegal... like screwdrivers, box cutters, baseball bats, metal pipe/conduit... There are a few locations in the U.S. where they have heavy gang activity and the gangs will use items that are not specifically weapons. Because of that laws have been passed so that the police can confiscate them from the gang-bangers and wanna-bees.

Holy crap. Who cares? Seriously, do you sell maglights? Do you have stocks or something? Why all this useless info?

Did OP mentioned maglights used as clubs? Check.

He obviously meant the big ones and not the tiny ones. Check.

We've all been talking about the big ones and not the small ones, cause using a pocket flashlight as a club would be completely idiotic, right? Check.

You said that these big ones are not allowed to be carried by civilians at some places, others said they can't even buy them in their countries, we all know they are used by police officers, security personel etc. Check.

And now you are saying what? Talking about sizes and gangwars and screwdrivers? WTH, either try to actually say something or just drop it already.

Damn, 'muricans piss me off with their "we haev supermarket with guns so every country has it too!". When I hear walmart on the dayz forums, my blood just boils.

Exactly. Only because you can buy carts full of ammo in Walmart doesn't mean all Walmarts in the world do it.

If i went to Walmart and asked for 12gauge ammo they would call the SEK.

Since you need the TLDR version for a couple paragraphs..

The larger Maglights make effective clubs, so effective that in certain locations where improvised weapons are discouraged they are on that list. However I can still buy one at a gas station, farm store, convenience store, or camping store. Thus they are common civilian improvised weapons.

Yeah because a minority uses them as a club primarily ...most users however use it because it brings light into the darkness. Same with car drivers accusing bikers they drive too fast and vice versa although only a minority is responsiible...put them all in one big bag and use the maglite to club them. Voila you have a ban.

Yep, the one sitting next to my bed and other one in my car are primarily for their typical use of lighting up the dark. However; I also like the fact that it can double as a weapon if needed; can be used lethally or non-lethally, unlike the machete and axe I used to always have in my Jeep; and takes care of two roles in emergency gear for me. If I picked up a window cracker cap it would take care of 3 roles but I don't go out on the ice much anymore and I don't drive the twisty narrow roads between two lakes like I did when I was living out on one of them.
