Best settings for spotting people

Recommended Posts

Not that many people knew about it until a certain youtuber told the noobs the advantage gained.

the guy talking about situational awareness is right, most players are blind or ignorant...or both

Well presumably to all the people that think running your graphics on low, to level the playing field, is an exploit then presumably, in the interests of fairness you should be limited to 3 FPS when we all crank our graphics up?

Or will you exploit your faster PC's to get better FPS - don't worry, I already know the answer.

Frankly, figuring out that you completely lie in the open for other players while you considering yourself kickass hidden, was quite a shock for me.

I also stopped using tents and vehicles. I figure this low graphics settings are the reason why you cant hide a thing in DayZ.

I remember YEARS ago attending a LAN. Quake III was a big deal for many people back then and it had this interesting little thing going on with it. The specific faster FPS you could achieve faster movement and higher jumps. I remember taking a break from Jedi Academy and wandering into the section where a bunch of players playing Q3 were. I looked at the screen and saw POLYGONS like an 80's game. The walls were textureless and clean brown, the floor the same but grey-blue, and a rocket was a large square with a smaller white square and even smaller red square when traveling at you. Basically they all tuned their graphics until they hit the perfect FPS and the game looked like something I would have played on an Atari.

This is the point where I decided I would not play a game lower than my system would allow. I frequently got outplayed at Q3 by those with rigs setup with no shadows or textures because not only could they see me before I could see them but they could actually move faster and jump higher. I was okay with that.

I keep my settings high and pretty.  There's a lot of nice scenery in this game and given that over 99% of time spent is traveling from point A to point B, it seems an awful waste to be staring at low-res polygons the entire time.  So, I might get killed easier than someone else.  *shrug*  Who cares, at least I enjoyed my time in game more than the other guy did, probably parked somewhere in a ghillie suit with a sniper rifle and no chance of me having seen him in the first place.

Anti aliasing off I've always had it off because it makes a weird effect as if there is like a faded fish net over everything but you can see edges really easy and that means people walking or sitting in a forest. I can spot people further away than most.

What settings make it easier to spot people that are like running in a forest or hiding inside a bush i guess first thing to change would be shadows:off ?

This is the reason I PvP on console

The best way to spot other players is to have the screen refresh more often, which means higher FPS, therefore lower your settings. I tried running the game with all the trees and bushes looking pretty for a while but it impacted my FPS and smoothness in cities too much. Since cities are the places you're mostly likely to see other players that's where you need the highest FPS.

Turn off head bob. Turn off post-processing effects. Turning off shadows will make it a lot easier too. To compensate for the aliasing you get with AA turned down/off you can try increasing the 3D rendering to over 100% keeping the screen resolution at 100% (over-rendering), this makes things look sharper in the game and has zero impact on performance on my PC.

I'd prefer to have things look pretty but this game is so ridiculously bottlenecked/inefficient in cities that it's not an option. Even with my settings this low I still only get around 25FPS in cities - that leads to a bad enough experience, I don't want it any worse. I'd wager the piss-poor city performance and the janky controls of ARMA are major contributors to camping and sniping in DayZ. Imagine if Battlefield only ran at 25FPS, running into close quarters would be suicide.

Id never sacrifice those gorgeous graphics for a tactical advantage!! That's just awfull lol. But if you want to then go ahead, probably wont even help you that much though.

Basically if you have most of the settings low as they would go with a very high res it will make it easier to see them.

Imagine some people went out and bought computers that can run this game at 60FPS in town with the settings all the way up. ;)
