Idea : Technical escape !

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I noticed that many of us dies early in the game because they do not manage to escape zombies.
Finding myself in the same situtation (always), I was still running to escape (i have no weapon), and I told myself to slow the progression of zombies, it would be wise to sacrifice food for they stop their pursuit.

How it works:

When we recovered meat or cans in inventory we would have a new "action" by right click and tells us "want to use this as a trap?" by agreeing the object in question can be used as trap for zombie.

CAUTION: Drop the food is NOT as effective! It will first apply the food that you want to use as TRAP.

I would give three category persuasion based food (drink will not have any effect) and on a base of ten zombies after us :

  • Cans containing meat (pork, sardines etc ...): 25% - 30% chance that at least one zombie make trapped. 2~3/10 - Hold zombie(s) ~5sec to 10sec - Perception area (loss of sight) = don't stay beside

  • Raw meats (percentage varies depending on the animal meat): 40% (for a rabbit) to 60% (for beef) chance that at least one zombie make trapped. 3~6/10 - Hold zombie(s) ~10sec to 25sec - Perception area (loss of sight) = 30m from the zombie if he keep on the food

  • Sacrifice an animal and leave the carcass: 70% to 99% (full cow carcass) chance to escape completely. 6~9/10 - Hold zombie(s) ~30sec to 5min - Perception area (loss of sight) = 20m to 15m from the zombie if he keep on the food

So much for the poorest among us and to push even farther away survival in DayZ sacrificing what we most dear: food.

(To push a little the idea a little further, it might be possible to mix the drink sweet and meat so that it has more effect)

I like the raw meat and animal aspect of this idea, even if it just delays the zombies for a few seconds, it could allow you to give 'em the slip. I don't think zombies would really go after canned food... How would they even open the can? lol

Hmm interesting idea... depends on if the infected eat other forms of meat besides human. I like it though, more non firearm alternatives to dealing with zombies!

Maybe we can open can before throwing ^^

Well technically they are infected so it depends on if the disease makes you want meat or human meat.

And there is also those:

-will the zombie notice a steak when a running human is in sight.

-will the zombie prefer a steak from a running human.

zombies do not just eat that human beings... matter of common sense, in fact it is easier to eat a non-moving target than a moving target.

The 3 poster trumps the 1265 poster with a single sentence. Classic.

Zombies are simply infected humans. They attack out of aggression, they eat out of hunger. I don't see why they wouldn't stop to investigate a piece of meat or the corpse of an animal as well as a human being. Of course, it would only even work if you broke their line of sight and confused them. Clearly they would ignore a corpse or a steak in preference for movement they can see, but as a mild distraction, I think it's an idea worth considering. It's just one of those little "tools" the developers could give players to use. It may not even work very effectively, but hey; maybe that one time, it might save your life.

We do not know the historical context of the game, for me the zombies have a real need for fresh meat, no matter where it comes from, as I described then there is a success rate, it is not inevitable, it helps us escape especially for the beginner.

Yeah, I was agreeing with you. Totally plausible. And we do know that the zombies in DayZ are "infected" and not "undead." Rocket did say that himself.

It should have a very low percentage of working unless if it was a freshly killed animal

I like it, but we would have to see if it would be like the DayZ mod choice/ inventory, if so I strongly doubt it would work, due to the clunkiness (not moaning).

I like it, seems like a good idea maybe if you have meat you can just scroll and click and there will be some sort of throwing animation, so that you don't have to open the inventory.

The percentage can be changed if needed, it's just an order of magnitude, by cons you could actually add some sort of "time decay", in fact a dead animal who was killed after 5 minutes have more effect than animal killed after an hour.

,any be attatch a flare to the meat to make it more visually appealing.

Naturally it would go to the steak first if it were closer than the human. Food 'preference' is a secondary objective in evolution.

Yum, a raw steak with expired A1 Steak Sauce and plenty of burning phosphorous, tasty enough for all of them zombies.

Ya, then attach a beartrap when you're done and you got a good trap for one of them, or maybe they go to stick their head in and it gets chopped off.

I think that this idea adds alot to the realism to the game (especially) the carcass one. If that was the game it could help alot of players but at the same time some "derps" might find them selfs in a pit of failiure,, personaly i wouldn't mind fucking up sometimes...

but also these traps could be used to trap other player as well, for exsample: you're getting chased by a bandit or a stalker and also the zombies you'd put the trap dowm, attract zombies and after when the zeds are "done" they might lock on the stalker.
So in conclusion I would love to have this feature in the game.

It is true that there are many possibilities, I think especially to put a trap in a carcass, for example, zombies are attracted by the carcass but no luck there is an explosive or a beartrap like NagstertheGangster says...

We could even add a feature where you could move the carcass from point A to point B in order to concentrate a maximum of zombie for a moment.
