Blippy 26 Posted September 20, 2013 It's not because I'll lose it. If I die (unless it's from a hacker), then it's my fault and I deserve to lose it. I don't want to lose my gear because I don't want others to have it. I have a lot of nice things and I'm sure everyone on the server I frequent would start a manhunt if they knew that I had multiple antibiotics on me, and although hunting other players is an exhilarating challenge, I know that my 65 day surviving streak will eventually come to end, and someone will grab the spoils. And that irks me. Even the thought that the looter will probably die and lose it in the next five minutes anyway doesn't bring much comfort, I don't know why. It's not just for DayZ, but for any game where someone could get my stuff by killing me. Runescape comes to mind when I played it several years ago. it's not too much of a problem since I'll very quickly get over it when I die, but I just wanted to share my thoughts. thehero 119 Posted September 20, 2013 That's why I like killing people that look like they are doing well for themselves they usually have some really good stuff. Killed a person in the woods near khelm the other day had 3 antibiotics and 10 blood bags! Not to mention a chec backpack a dmr nvgs and range finders I'm sure he was pissed especially since we were in the woods in the middle of nowhere
Jex 1104 Posted September 20, 2013 You get attached to your gear the longer you spend collecting it. The thought of some new spawn or anyone taking your hard earned loot is aggravating. This is why in games like COD and BF there is never any adrenaline because there are no consequences to your actions. If you die, you respawn with the same gear time and time again. Dayz takes away all the things you collected or fought for over days of playing so of course there's more value to it and why the game instill fear into you. Blippy 26 Posted September 20, 2013 I came back to this thread expecting a lot of "lol stop being attached to your gear scrub" posts, and was pleasantly surprised. I guess it's nice knowing that it's how a lot of other people feel too.
CMoth 4 Posted September 20, 2013 I also get attached to my gear and preferred kit. I run a survivalist not a hero. I want to see how long I can survive in game while collecting needed supplies and gear. I avoid players if at all possible and do NOT go into population centers at all. If I wanted to play death-match I'd have stuck to my XBox and FPS titles. I'm not knocking players that take a new spawn and go sprinting into Cherno or Elektro to do PVP, play the style you want. I'm just not into that. But, when I do eventually die it just means I can start a new stretch of survival gaming. Awesome.
