Squida 0 Posted September 15, 2013 Hello to everyone on the forums that is alive and able to see their screen. I have just gotten the game and so far I am having an awesome time killing things and finding loots, but I have questions that will follow up on more questions. Is Alpha out yet? Because there is a button that says "Download DayZ Alpha Test" How do I know if I have the Alpha Test version or the DayZ Mod version, that is if the Alpha is available. Thank you in advance. IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted September 15, 2013 The Alpha Test download is the Mod. Dunno why/when the button changed but it's been like that for a bit now and has casued a bit of confusion. The Mod is currently in it's own Alpha. So you've got the same thing.Standalone is still in PRE-Alpha so there's no way you or me are playing it. There's only a few testers outside of the Dev Team who have access to Standalone.
Squida 0 Posted September 17, 2013 (edited) With Arma 3 released will the dev team continue working on the Arma 2 DayZ mod, due to I dont want to be having to pay more money for Arma, when I dont even play the game? Any where we can go to have a look at the upcoming Features of the game for both Standalone and Mod? Once the Standalone is out how much is it going to be worth? (Should be atleast under 15 bucks) the only reason I say that is because of the Dev team and how they have gone with things so far, not saying its bad or good How many people on the dev team for DayZ mod and how many are on the StandAlone? So much work on the standalone when there is so many bugs on DayZmod that its sometimes not playable and then expecting to get Paid money for the standalone when the Mod is what we are playing right now, How are you going to correct this for the buyers? Also is there a list of things we can do for this game? Thanks in advance Edited September 17, 2013 by Squida
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted September 17, 2013 As far as I know, the DayZ mod is being updated by other modders and community memebers, and Rocket has almost nothing to do with it anymore other than giving his OK for certain updates. I don't have a link for the Mod's 'next patch notes' but they're on this forums. Try searching for Change Log. Features for Standalone usually change hourly. There's no set price for the Alpha of Standalone but it will be a lower price to reflect that (sort of like minecraft). It's been said around $15-20 so hopefully its in that price range. IMO it would be worth it at $30 for the Alpha. Even if it had a surprise release tommorow (9/17) I would still buy it, right before I go to gamestop to pick up my copy of GTA5 and disappear for a week just so I have my foot in the door. Dunno for the Mod, for the Standalone I think it's around 30? Some Devs get traded out to work on the other IPs of BIS and vice versa. The Mod (I was corrected) is still in it's Alpha. Standalone is in PRE Alpha. When you consider most game companies that do public testing don't even do that till the Beta and there are still shit tonnes of bugs, get over it. It's the nature of programming. You get the Zombie to stop walking through walls, and somehow that makes all guns play the Iron Man song after the zombies are fixed (kind of dramatic but I think it's apt).TL:DR? They're working on it. And what do you think as soon as they release the alpha they're just gonna stop working on it? There will probably be nearly daily updates after the release to fix bugs that pop up, and they'll add in things as they get completed, or wait for a 'weekly' release to add in things. Not sure what you mean by list of things we can do for the game. DO you mean a list of things we can do in game or do you mean what do we have to do to buy the game? Squida 0 Posted September 19, 2013 The mod is and always has been a free project. It's free to play and the devs work on it for free. Mods are always buggy and always will be. The SA is a separate project funded by BIS. Yes I understand that they are doing the mod for free and charging for the standalone But from what you are saying are you implying that they would rather stop working on the Mod just because there not gonna get money for it, because the way the designer world works if a product aint finished it aint worth the time, Not in my case though because I do enjoy the game. And with all the marketing and trips they do, spending people's money who support the game, They should of gone with the direction of full development costs considering every time they show the game theres issues and of course there is going to be, due to it only being in development for the time its been in development. I ain't trying to start a fight here and I am not saying that there doing shit or not doing there job or how ever it may seem to come accross to some readers. All I am trying to say is they really should of not hyped this game and spend money with the gaming events and other events to promote there game, they should of hired more people for development or better trained if thats not the case to leap over the hurdles that block there path. And also thanks for the info.
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted September 19, 2013 Now that they have done much of the initial groundwork the team is moving to larger offices in Prague and they are taking on more staff.
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted September 19, 2013 The fans (and the mod for the most part) have done most of the hyping to be honest. Yes they've gone to some tech shows to show it off a bit, but other than that they've spent no money to my knowledge on 'hyping' DayZ. They haven't paid, That Youtuber who I shall not name to prevent flames, or that other Youtuber who won't be named to prevent flames, or Diddums, or anyone else to hype the game for them, or even asked them, they've done it for free (and in some cases did what they could to 'dehype' the game). They haven't spent any money marketing the game (as of yet, and I frankly think they won't need to). I mean look at GTA5, they've been running ads for the game for almost a full year. What does Rocket do? Go to a few Gaming Cons to show off the current build, and occasionally tweet about something added, removed or fixed. Bohemia isn't EA or Rockstar, they don't have the money to 'hype' their games. How many Ads for any of the Arma games, or any of BIS' games have you seen? I've seen none. Squida 0 Posted September 19, 2013 Last I was told most computer/gaming expos cost money to have a stand for one, a good spot and also money on the materials and equipment to show off there project and to entertain the fans but hell if you can show me otherwise then all is good. And to Fraggle. Thanks for that mate, did not know they were moving places and again to above post moving = Money :)
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted September 19, 2013 Like it or loathe it going to game expo's etc are an important part of game development. The money it costs is peanuts in the grander scheme of things. We're all active users of these forums so don't really need to watch the Q&A's etc but probably 90% of the potential player base have never once been here and expo's etc are their sole source of info, much like they are for me about other games I'm interested in like Witcher 3 etc. BIS as a company had a stand at the big expo's and don't forget they've just released Arma 3 and have been pushing that too. They're also important for the devs in terms of networking, it's probably the only time in the year that Dean etc get to meet and chat with other game devs, the importance of that can't be understated in terms of professional advice, feedback etc from people that have been there and done it. Every single part of developing a game costs money, we could argue all day about their priorities etc but at the end of the day we'll just have to see what's released and judge them on that.
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted September 19, 2013 I wasn't implying that the game expos were by any means free for showcasers, or that they were just there to be there. Just that aside from the expos they have not spent money on hyping either Standalone or the Mod.
