Blood Scent

Is it a good a idea to incorporate a scent system for the Zeds, they detect you from a larger area when you bleed, or blood bag yourself, this will end when you bandage yourself or blood bag yourself completely, which will end after about 20 or so seconds, I know its not perfect but what about it?.

Well maybe it would be better if they slowly walk towards the blood, investigating the area.

So you can have time to bandage/bb yourself

I also think it would be goof the zombies would wait until you finish, stalking you, then when you move they jump at you?.

I don't really think adding scent is a great idea, simply because of how it makes avoiding zombies after you've been injured really difficult. Not only would firing your weapon be suicide, but if you happen to be unlucky enough to have on zombie spot you, it'd basically be the end of your character.

That would be the beauty of it though.  Zombies shouldn't be easy in SA.

As long as zombies don't have super senses. The human olfactory system is not exactly up to the standards of a bloodhound or a turkey vulture... in fact it rather sucks.

Interesting idea, but I would have to be against it. Can you smell blood from a distance? A dog could smell it, animals with noses designed to pick up scent from a distance could do this.. but zombies are just reanimated humans. So IMO, zombies would only use their eyes and ears (if they had them that is...).

 

With that said, maybe predatory animals could hunt you down if you are bleeding? Makes more sense to me.

Well in a way you're right, they're not zombies but infected humans, so they shouldn't have super senses.

But you do know your nose picks up food scent from a increased range when you are starving? 

Basically the older the zombies are, the better their scent should be. (since they are starving, and they don't eat each other)

And maybe when they kill a player their scent goes back to normal.

So that wouldn't be much of a problem, since the server restarts and the zombies constantly get killed.

But with 5000 zombies at a time on a server, it would be a nice little addon, ya know?

And the fact that there are tons of dead bodies, as well as leaking fluids everywhere would be very confusing to the smell.

Not only that, I can't see how they could make a realistic system without it being very annoying to deal with or taking way too much time to make.

I want less alert zombies, but tougher.
