FEEDBACK: 5 Minute Zombie Body Deletion

Recommended Posts

As I was ingame after reading the patch notes, I had two things of feedback on the five minute timer.

1. Sometimes you're killing a zombie horde for more than five minutes, meaning the bodies are going to be gone before you can loot them.

2. You won't be able to track players or know they are in the area by seeing dead zombies except in the five minutes after they kill them. I think that takes a bit of suspense out of the game, because deciding wether to steer clear of a dead zombie trail or to follow it are two key things that heighten the sense of fear and adrenaline, for me, at least.

Thanks.

Understood. I went with five minutes for the moment because I've been really brutal with this patch on optimization. I wan't the be sure people were getting good frames with this. Later it will be increased. Maybe the body won't delete at all if you're within 50m of it.

yea i think rocket is right, when i accidentally shot a friend i had to wait for him to get back to his body, so i sat with him in my screen, took like 2 hours.

That sounds like a plan. I understand the optimization completely. I'm glad that aspect of the sheer terror won't be overlooked. :)

And a friend of mine suggested some sort of ability to delete bodies that you hide, which I'm sure you've thought of. Hiding bodies on second stories and having them sink through the floors doesn't help much.

Yeah I have to say that the 5m Deletion is a bit kick in the pants for someone looking at signs of player activity when stalking other players.

A dead zombie really stands out, 5 minutes is just too long, what was it before? 15 minutes surely is a good number?

I was just wondering if there was a plan in action to make corpses, zombie and player alike, disappear instantly or at least within a few minutes after hiding it?

I know as of right now the corpses stay on the server / screen (if hidden on a non ground level position) for a very very very long time even after being hidden. And god knows that is causing FPS problems, desync / connection issues, lag, and extra unneeded load on the servers & players PCs.

I agree that unhidden bodies shouldn't disappear so fast due to both above reasons but they do need to disappear to keep performance up. Maybe something more like 8 - 15 minutes, tweak it till it feels right based off of the experience of how long it takes to clear a horde and loot.

But bodies that you hide should disappear instantly / within a few minutes and not just drop a few feet on the screen under the ground or just floating in the air if you hide them from a upper floor. I'm sure this will possibly help performance a lot since there is no reason for them to stick around after you hide them.

And the flies sound is still happening after hiding player bodies.
