Break "engine" Down To Smaller Parts

Recommended Posts

Right

The reasoning behind this is that there is now way anyone could carry a typical car engine. The have to be extracted by an engine crane and worked on from there. even with all the extra parts stripped the block itself would be damn hard to lift by hand. That being said we do have to be able to carry these parts to the vehicle we want to repair.

I would do this. Make the engine a craftable item requiring a few parts to build b4 placing it in the car. Maybe something like this-

Block - 12  slots

Header - 3  slots

Pistons - 1 slot each

Sump - 4 slots

Maybe more to make it harder, but obviously it carnt be broken down into a ridiculous amount of parts, just enough to make it more realistic.

Each part could be fitted sepratly and cars could be found in various states of repair. Also could inspire more "trade" between players for vital parts.

agreed....something else that needs broken down^^. though my knolege of helicopter main rotors isn't as good as with cars so wouldn't know how to split that. maybe leave that as a 1 piece but u need a car to transport it. Maybe drag it to the car and then load it, akin to the way the BTC logistics script lets you drag and load ammo crates in arma 2 vanilla.

who would pull an engine in a zombie apocalypse? what would make more sense is to walk up to a car pop the hood and inspect it. after you inspect it you get text telling you what you need to get the engine running IE radiator hose, radiator, alternator, battery ect.

I didn't mean pull the engine....I meant pull the main rot if it was left as a 1 piece ;). This could also act as a buffer so a pro team couldn't join a server and have a heli within 30mins....they would first need a car to carry the main rot to the heli..And the car would take them a while to fix with the engine being harder to make. Unless ofcourse if they felt like dragging a main rot all the way frm an industrial to the heli lol

Here's the best solution:

Remove the engine block graphic. It's meant to be a general indicator of any given "engine part" needed to fix a car but people are taking it literally (and why not?). Simply change the model and the gear slot item to an assortment of parts (rad hose and clamps, distributor cap, etc).

Better yet, replace the engine block with 2 or 3 other smaller items.

A battery would be nice. It's the first thing to go on a car that's sitting idle.

No one would swap engine blocks in a Z apocalypse.

Nobody would try anything in a game that would take at least a day of work IRL...that's why a lot of people think up stupid stuff. Not that i'm saying that this idea is stupid. It makes a lot of sense but replacing engine parts is another thing than reparing high tech equipment like a helicopter gunship let alone a turbine engine or you wouldn't have to be an engineer who trained for years to build and repair this stuff. And usually  like taco said you wouldn't bother replacing an engine, you would just take the next best running vehicle.

You're not carrying an engine. You're carrying engine parts. They just gave it the "skin" of a whole engine block.

Reminds me of Bad Company....

When you kill an enemy he'll drop what looks like his gun. It's not actually his gun, it's more than his gun. It's his soul contained within a magic idol that looks like a gun.

It's a game bro... Get over yourself...

That's pretty arrogant imo.....It was just suggestion to improve realism in a game where realism is the goal.

Yep, your both right, maybe just a simple skin change to a pile of parts instead would do the trick. @ Taco, The end of your post is basically what im getting at.....jus make it a few more parts.

it wouldn't all have to be done in 1 day....just as now in dayz sometimes it can take me a couple of days of play, maybe more, to scavenge everything I need for say a heli. Glass for them can be a particular pain in the ass lol.

Not just the parts will be nealry impossible to find...you need the time to replace them, too.

If this was added it would require a lot more searching, although it might work more if there is a rare chance to find a complete engine that you can take apart into seperate pieces.

This is one GREAT taco. Agreed.

Wasnt it the R3F logistic script?

Good idea anyway.   Make the players be able to "carry" it in their hands slowly for a couple of meters and after that you will need a car or a shopping trolley or something like that....

In fairness the mod had "engine parts" but I like this system anyway.

The more micro managing and difficulty in fixing something the better.

Vehicles could be fixed in about 30 mins in the mod an hour should be a quickfix to get it moving, then another few hours even with the vehicle working to get it up to full health.

specifics aren't bad either.

Motorbike engine could be done in one whole piece.

Bicycle tire, Motorcycle tire, car tyre all purpose, car tyre off road.

^ This.

Unless you have an inflatable engine lift in your pack, you're not swapping engines anywhere but in a fully equipped workshop inside a fortified structure.

Main causes of vehicles left at the roadside will be running out of fuel or flat batteries due to the lights being left on overnight.

So a 5L fuel can and a car battery would be your best bet to get discarded vehicles running again.

Unless they have been standing there for a while.....though I am not a car expert.

Most thing I can do is swap the oil and change a tire but thats about it.

So in the end I would be sticking to my good old trusty mountainbike in an apocalypse B)

well i like it, maybe you would learn something along the way, and you wouldn't have to do timing belts etc.
