Decent Server Provider

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Is there a decent sever provider out there?  I also run Epoch.

I have now tried 3 and all of them have failed to provide a decent server.

Survival Servers:

Really really shit suppliers, the worst SCUM in the universe.

DayZ.st:

Fantastic support, no FTP access but worst thing for me was server performance and lag was very evident after more than 15 players on a server.

HFB:

Unforgivable customer service, if my server dies I expect it to be working again within 6-12 hours.

I am not sure which ones run Epoch, I think DayZPriv are about the only company left, but they charge quite alot more for having an Epoch server.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you considered just getting a VDS and setting up epoch yourself? If you have the skills I would strongly suggest nfoservers.com

best customer service I have ever had in my life, in any industry. And very fair pricing.

^ ^ What Grumpy said ^ ^

It's not that difficult setting up a Dayz server, all you need is your ArmA to be through Steam and some basic Perl knowledge.

We went your route once and found both SS and .st to be no good for our needs, manage things yourself gives you full access to do everything and you don't share the server with others.

if  you have the money to go full dedicated box you can go with Gameservers.com (US based)  but has centers around the world. My last clan had a dedicated server with them running 3 ARMA servers (including a dayZ private hive) and a Tekkit. came in at about 200-250/Mo

Just expect to have to upload/install/edit configs all on your own through remote desktop with this route. Support is quick to address hardware stuff but anything you install yourself is entirely your problem to sort out he configurations and troubleshoot problems.

If you plan on using your server for at least a couple of years, I highly recommend that you just build your own server and colo it. That's what I did after my less than satisfactory experience with one of the server providers that you mentioned. Assuming you find a reasonably priced data center, you would end up having a higher performing server for the same cost (maybe even much less) after a period of time.

I pay $59 USD per month for:

--2U rack space

--2A power w/remote reboot

--5TB bandwidth

--1Gbps throughput

Since I built it myself, I gave it a high performing CPU cooler/fan (10,000 RPM), so I could overclock (much tougher to do in a 2U case). It's a 3570k at 4.2GHz right now, but I could go a little higher if necessary. That overclock alone makes it an awesome value. Try finding a rented dedicated server with a CPU clocked around that--it will be crazy expensive (or not even available).

Plus, if you colo it's just you and the data center--no 3rd party in between to complicate things (which speeds up issue resolution, or prevents issues entirely). In one year I have had only one issue, which was due to a partial data center power loss. It was resolved in less than a day.

If you decide to colo, feel free to ask me any anything. There are a few things I would have done differently with my server build now that I have had it for a year.
