  1. 1. Could this affect how survivors play the game?

    • Yes; I prefer it this way.

    • No; this suggestion is as bad as my dirty laundry right now.

Hey guys, TIC here and I'd like to see something particularly interesting to some people or not that could involve with the clothes that our characters wear in the Standalone.

I was thinking more of a line of stains that could make us stand out more unique and along the lines, how it can affect our well-being.

I hope I didn't go too in-depth with this ;)

Effects of dirty clothes (Comparison Image here: http://dayz-survivor.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Degrading.jpg)

  • Could inflict our characters to get skin rashes(which could appear red in certain areas) and could be treated easily as for you wearing the clothes longer; could impose more of a serious threat into skin infections into illnesses since dirty clothes have microorganisms.
  • Body odor could increase more and more which could lead to flies buzzing around you which could attract survivors and zombies in a certain proximity along with scaring animals away with their senses.

Clothing that's considered to have this effect

  • FOOTWEAR(includes socks, shoes, etc) which is where bacterial growth can occur since it's dark, warm and moist from physical actions(walking, running) which can lead to discomforts such as athletes foot(also known as Tinea).

  • UNDERGARMENTS(briefs for unisex) Doesn't need an explanation as if I were to explain the same reason again, it'd be repetitive :P

  • HEADGEAR/HANDWEAR I have no idea how headwear hygiene can work against our health but I'll have to research that and add it on later. For handwear such as gloves which could create problems when we come in contact with objects such as food and weapons and can contaminate them with diseases.

Solution; we can take our shoes off for some time and use disinfectant spray inside our shoes and possibly socks if it were to work.

WET CLOTHING if survivors choose not to dry them could also promote mold growth (which can appear as white dots on clothes if it's serious) and can include a very foul smell.

Solution; This is practically known that we can dry our clothes in many methods such as hanging them somewhere that is warm and dry (Improved Temperatures confirmed from Rocket; forgot where though.)

Survivors can also leave clothes on the ground which can slowly increase the amount of dirt and other possible pathogens that get into it.

Ways to clean clothes

  • Survivors can do laundry by rinsing their clothes in a lake or pond depending on the quality of that water source and how it can affect it for drinking quality.
  • Some stains are harder to get out than others(especially blood) so maybe some extra bleach to find wouldn't hurt. (Bleach could also be used for other crafting methods)
  • If possible to use a generator, we could have an operating washer/dryer which could be a lot easier and at the same time, very energy consuming.
  • Depending on the temperature of water(Can boil or let it cool), it could affect stains on clothes.
  • Methods can include using a washboard, a table and a scrubber with bristles or others that I haven't listed.

It's a really cool concept but I think it's an idea too early for the game. If the game-play is anything like the DayZ mod, you won't have time to mess with dirty clothes and such. But then again if the maps in Standalone are HUGE and you can just kind of set up camp up in an isolated part of a mountain without people messing with you, I think it would be a great thing to have. Definitely adds a whole new concept of realism to the game. Good idea man!

The idea of dirty/stained clothes has been brought up before.

I think it's over the top, and frankly just a pain in the ass to implement. If you were to get wet, your clothes wouldn't get moldy... they would dry out before mold has the time to grow. Same for your shoes. I hardly ever, if ever, wash my shoes, and I don't have athletes foot. Things like athletes foot and trench foot come from not keeping your feet warm and dry, clean, etc, etc. I feel having to change your socks, and clean your feet would be too far as well.

The whole "flies around you" idea doesn't make sense either. Flies aren't attracted to sweaty, dirty, stinky people. Flies are attracted to rotting, decaying things where they can lay eggs (i.e. feces and rotten meat).

The thing is that what we wear comes to an effect. Especially since when I put this into consideration is that survivors most often can wear clothes for a very long time without having to remove them which could lead out to consequences. What I want to put as well is most importantly, the weather to promote those issues.

Mold does happen if you leave wet clothing(specifically cotton material) in an area for a while, more likely to happen in tight spaces more than spacious areas with lots of air flow.

The smells that we find is a warning of putrefaction to humans is what attracts flies so anything that has a mild-strong smell that we dislike can attract flies. Dead bodies that are around your proximity decomposing would reduce the likeliness of the flies coming towards you if you were to smell bad as it would be ignored. When it comes to clothing lying around that smells, flies are attracted to organic matter/clothing like wool, silk and cotton for them to reproduce(Scientific sentence is italicized which couldn't affect DayZ but more of reality)

Yeah, it is too early I can admit but this is what I want to put out as a recommendation for the developers to include into the game at a later time as there are other priorities that the Standalone needs to finish.

In an MMO Perspective, clothing is what strives our characters appearance and I'd like it if it were to be distributed to attributes from how we take care of the things we have such as Rocket saying we could do weapon cleaning, same concept.

YES!!!

We can finally utilize all those washing machines I find in the road!

With us using the disinfectants with an action bar, we could clean those bad boys out and give it a whirl ;)

Blood on clothes is a feature I really want. Dirt, I could take it or leave it.

I think blood would be great to distinguish whoever was in combat mostly and even if players try to remove blood stains off clothes, remnants of them will remain unless you change clothing items of course :)

I want clothes to rip after being hit by zombies and such.

So if I run around in underwear they can get ripped off :)

Blood is a nice idea aswell so you can see how active the player has been.

Clothes should get dirty faster when proned.

When you go in water you find it harder to warm up untill they're dry but this is also a faster way a cleaning up your clothes?

That's already been confirmed where clothing goes through each state after it's been damaged. This applies to all clothing worn by players

I posted that on the 14th of August, I guess I got my wish one thing I do want is the levels of decaying to be less seamy.

It goes from clean to muddy to burnt and muddy.

I want holes to show in clothing as the bloodstained holes go away and things to go dirty over time instead of a bullet making it dirty.

Zombies and melee weapons make rips.

I would keep my first t shirt in my bag and stick it on whenever I wanna do a Rambo :) in my ripped up, Swiss cheese, blood stained shirt as a mark of my players triumphs.

But what we have now is great for alpha :)

I think this is a step too far, sorry. The majority of survivors won't even survive long enough to get their clothes dirty to the point of attracting flies etc.

I definitely want bloodstained.

If it can detect exactly where you've been shot it should be able to stick a texture overtop of the shirt.
