Survival groups for the standalone

Recommended Posts

I think to stop other people killing each other as much we should have survivalist groups that players can start on the own. When they feelthey can trust another player they can invite them to join and when the other player joins they can no longer shoot each other. Also when you are in a group that is the only time a player can trade with another player for safe tradin of items like antibiotics n weapons etc. This will cause other players to not KOS as often as you might have something they need like guns or say your player good crafting skills or something i dont know. But say if a player killed someone in your group yiur group would know by a marker when ur close to them. I just think somethin along the lines of this with abit more perks about it would help ALOT.

We want immersion and realism. We don't want to make "teams" like that.

I like the idea of groups but not no friendly fire.

Name tags might make more sense.

But they should not get a special radio channel or anything.

I Wanna say if you are letting another in your group it should be a sign of great trust.

They should sorta roll together and get a to login around each others tents and stuff.

But you can't shoot each other. That's dumb.

DayZ is meant to be immersive and realistic. I can shoot my friends in real life!

DayZ is not meant to be "realistic".

If DayZ was ment to be realistic most likly 99,99% of all players would not be able to fly a aircraft, neither would most players not be able to repair a vehicle; you couldn't run for hours etc etc. The list is fucking endless.

Conclusion: This mod is not realistic, however it was and will never claim to be realistic. Get your facts right.

I support some of the older ideas of punishment for exessive "banditory": If you kill too many Survivors you have to drink Alcohol (with it's side effects).

However this has to be implemented very carefully: Shooting in selfdefence (e.g. i have killed so many survivors which were shouting "friendly" in direct chat while (!!) firing at me : what the fuck?!) should not be punished. However i have implemented something like this in battlefield 2 which resulted in high server loads since every bullet had to be calculated (which itself was even a hack).

However there has to be a group management system very soon since this is (in my opinion) one of the major missing parts of DayZ (and i dont want to use TeamSpeak plus Direct Chat together, ArmA's channel system is sufficient).

In some ways I agree. But in one, very important way, I disagree.

Like Rocket said, I like authenticity more than I like realism. Realism can mean different things to different people. My example here is the spawning system.

I'd like to be able to create a group with me and my friends or my brothers that I play with, so we can spawn in the same vicinity. Due to the size of the map, it could take hours to meet up; and chances are, someone will die on the way there and the process starts over ago. Now many people would argue that's not "realistic". And others, like me, would say why not? Why wouldn't I, in an apocalypse, travel with some people I know and trust?

I'm not sold on the not being able to shoot each other, because that's realism that I think is necessary; friendly fire. However, DayZ is a game, and by no means a perfect, glitch free one. I've shot and been shot by friends simply because of flawed game mechanics - such as if I'm trying to heal someone or go into their backpack and the action disappears. That's the only reason I would support not being able to shoot people in your group.

The final reason I like the idea is that it really does encourage co-operative play. The idea that once you're in a group, that person is effectively trustworthy and you can trade and do whatever with a potential stranger without worrying about him killing you after he gets what he wants from you I like. I understand that a lot of players won't like the relative safety and won't feel the tension and fear of not knowing what a player could do; but to be honest, I'm not one of them. I could live without that aspect of the game.
