Last night on Origins

Recommended Posts

So last night I decided to play some Origins.  Joined a server I used to play on all the time (US002), but hadn't in a long while because of DayZero and other things taking my interest.  Apparently though, I had been playing on that server as a Hero (had a lvl 1 hero skin) and had left myself with an M4A1 CCO and a silenced makarov and a few medical supplies.  No food though. Not a single can of beans, and no matches to cook meat with either.

But whatever, I said to myself.  My food meter was really low, but I spawned right next to a nice little town (Martin) which I knew had a lot of residential loot spawns, so I figured I'd be fine...

20 minutes later I had made my way through every single friggin building in the entire town without a single god damn can of beans to show for it.  And worse yet, by this point starvation was setting in and I was down to about half my health.  I knew that If I kept heading to the next closest town, I would be moving further away from the nearest spawn point (Etanovsk), and decided that instead, I would start heading west, back towards Etanovsk, knowing that I would definitely not make it all the way back before starving to death.  Once I got to the point where I knew I'd be passing out, I parked myself under a pine tree and awaited the sweet release of death :)

10 minutes later (or less), my player was dead and I was able to respawn in Etanovsk.  I briefly ran through a couple of buildings on my way, but more or less made a bee line straight back to my body, about 3 km away.

Right at about the time I was getting close to where I knew my body would be, night began to set in, and by the time I got to the grove of pine trees where I parked my corpse, it was full night.

Found my body no problem, but couldn't seem to be able to pick up a single bit of my gear.  Not the backpack, not anything.

I then suddenly realized that the vehicle I had heard in the distance as I was getting to my loot is definitely getting closer.

Frantically trying to pick up my loot (in particular the M4A1  :)) I realize that I'm able to see a little bit better than normal.

Wtf? How is it getting light out already?

As it gets brighter and brighter I realize that it is not, in fact, the sun. It is the vehicle is coming straight in to my little grove of pine trees.

The vehicle busts through the trees at full speed heading directly at me. How is this even possible? I'm in the middle of the god damn forest.

I just sit there like a dumbstruck deer caught in the headlights.

Dude rams right in to me.

I pass out but am still alive.

Two guys get out. One has a bandit skin. Not looking good for our hero.

"Oh shit, dude are you okay?  Here, I'm going to bandage you" the non-bandit says.

Holy shit they're going to help me.  I might get some of my gear back after all.

As those thoughts are forming in my head, the bandit player leans over me an unloads an entire clip from his pistol in to my skull.

"Oh", the non-bandit says.  "Well shit dude, sorry man."

...

As I logged off to get a couple hours of sleep before work, I couldn't help but smile to myself...

I know it could've been a lot more interesting if they bandaged me and held me hostage, but the ridiculousness of them somehow blindly running in to me, knocking me out, and then killing me after the fact, made me not even care that I had wasted a bunch of time running back there for my gear.

Player interactions, no matter how "shitty" they are, are what make this game so god damn entertaining.

I tried out origins for the third time last night and here is how my story goes.

I spawn at some city that is said to have 90% pvp.  I start running across a field when I see another player out in the distance.  I check a barn for some loot really fast and then head out to see if the other survivor wants to team up.  When I get to him he isn't moving.  I figure he must of gone afk and right when I'm about to leave, he falls onto his back and starts freaking out like he's having a seizure.  Well considering this is only my third time playing origins, and that I haven't played in a few months, I thought he must of been an npc.  So I pop him in the head only to realize it was actually a player.  I felt slightly bad but considering he was a fresh spawn and I was clueless as to what happened, I let it go.  However it game me a bandit skin because of it.

As I head deeper into the city I see some large buildings in the distance beyond some woods so I decide to head there.  Upon arriving I check a grocery store and then decide to go over to the school to check for a better weapon.  As I get there a player calls out over direct chat saying, "Hello."  I respond back asking if he's friendly.  He says yes and tells me to meet him in the school.  He was in the building next to it and as he's running over, asks me if his stripper friend is sexy...

Once he gets to the school I tell him to meet me on the balcony.  Him and his friend run up.  With makarovs pointed at me, they tell me, "Oh... yeah dude you're a bandit."  During the last seconds of my life I saw the flash of the makarov.  As I fall back to the ground with the last seconds of a functioning brain, I think to myself, "Why do I even play this mod."  As my cracked open heads lands on the concrete, the man puts one last round in between my eyes.  Then, complete black...

Honestly, I was surprised when I spawned in as a hero... I almost never attempt anything other than a bandit play-style while on non-vanilla servers.  I don't think I've ever come across a friendly player on Origins and used to always get behind people and call out to them before engaging...
