Longs 42 Posted August 4, 2013 (edited) I would rather the infection system was split into debilitiating non deadly infection and serious deadly infection. I realise someone put up a similar idea but his idea wasn't the same as mine.Non Deadly infection could result from:Eating raw meatDrinking dirty waterEating from unknown cans of foodBleeding.Symptoms could be the current coughing and slow blood loss but if you continue to eat and drink from safe sources like cooked meat and boiled water you will eventually get better. However you can only recover lost blood by using blood bags and food. Also if you continue to eat/drink from bad sources or pick up minor injuries the non deadly infection could progress to a deadly one.Deadly infections could result from:Bullet injuriesRepeated zombie hitsBroken bone injuriesProlonged bleedingSymptoms could again be the current coughing and slow blood loss but the only way to stop it would be with antibiotics. You will not get better over time however you can hold off dying by topping up your blood but without antibiotics you will stay ill. Korsbaek 1778 Posted August 4, 2013 How can i tell the difference if the symptoms are the same?
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted August 4, 2013 I think a small infection chance from bullet and melee injuries should definitely be added.
Longs 42 Posted August 5, 2013 Sorry I forgot to add how I thought you should be able to differentiate between levels of infection. Currently when infected the blood icon gets a fuzzy outline with skull and crossbones when infected. For a minor infection it could just be a fuzzy outline on its own. Then for a serious infection the skull and crossbones could be added.
enforcer1975 1111 Posted August 5, 2013 How can i tell the difference if the symptoms are the same? That's where your education to a doctor comes into play....bad day for a layman. In case rocket tells the truth his brother is an expert in virology and stuff like that so this department is already covered imo.
Longs 42 Posted August 5, 2013 The reason I posted this suggestion is because the current infection system is totally reliant on antibiotics to treat. I think it would be much better if in situations where a less serious infection is present a player can try to take it easy and focus on getting better. Kinda placing more emphasis on survival. Under the current system a lot of players resort to suicide when infected then just recover their gear if they have any or just start over. If players know they will get better if they rest, eat and drink they might be inclined to adjust their playstyle for a while when presented with a minor infection.
