sgtsomebody 0 Posted August 4, 2013 (edited) So, me and my friend really love dayz and It seemed pretty awesome. I want to play with him but im on a macbook pro (please no comments on how crappy a mac is i've had my fair share). Around christmas time, I was running boot camp on my mac and I played arma 2 for around a few weeks, but as more work came I had to stop playing, eventually I was so uninterested taht I deleted boot camp. Now, I lost my windows, so, to get another way of running windows on a mac, I got a program called VirtualBox (Its owned by Oracle, people who own Java, its trustworthy). Im running windows 7 on it and I downloaded arma 2, and operation arrowhead, and the dayz mod. So, im really pumped to play again, I'm in that zone where you cant wait to play a game, then, my computer tells me to go screw myself. (It came up with the error: display adapter does not support format d24s8 for x8r8g8b8) So i surfed the internet for a solid 5 hours, and I literally went nowhere. I tried making my graphics settings on full in the control panel, and I tried updating my drivers, but here is the problem. I have the nvidia 320m graphics card, which has no way to update the drivers, so, I don't know what to do. Im sure you all know how it feels to want to play dayz so please take the time to help me out. I would really appreciate it. I went to my computer hardware on windows and looked at the hardware and all it said was vga video adaptor, nothing about my graphics card? I've played Dayz on this computer before so don't tell me that it won't work with my computers specs lmao. But here they are: Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) It would be great if we can try teamviewer or something, here is my Skype:andrew.constantin Edited August 4, 2013 by sgtsomebody

OfficerRaymond 2064 Posted August 4, 2013 inb4graveyard The mods aren't going to appreciate you advertising to give money to outside parties. Feel free to have a thread in which you do not, everyone will be glad to attempt to help you free of charge... we aren't a bunch of pay-by-the-hour techies... we're just helpful gamers. IMO, I'd just buy a different computer, but since you probably can't fit it in a budget, I'll leave my two cents on the table.

But I appreciate your response and time. Cool clan. Edited August 4, 2013 by sgtsomebody
Statik (DayZ) 2695 Posted August 4, 2013 (edited) People who actually want to help you don't want your money. I suggest you edit your post. Have you updated drivers or anything recently? If so, uninstall and reinstall. Make sure they're fully uninstalled. EDIT: Your GPU might also be below the minimum required for the game. Graphics: GPU (Nvidia Geforce 7800 / ATI Radeon 1800 or faster) with Shader Model 3 and 256 MB VRAM Edited August 4, 2013 by Statik

ttghusky@live.com.au 10 Posted August 4, 2013 Your issue lies with VirtualBox, it makes a virtual computer, using only a small partion of the hardware, you'll need to bootcamp again, otherwise you wont be able to play.
Statik (DayZ) 2695 Posted August 4, 2013 Should i reinstall the drivers on my macbook pro or windows? When im on windows it doesnt even show up .Your guess is as good as mine. I'm not too good when it comes to computers.
h3l1x 327 Posted August 4, 2013 (edited) What husky said. DayZ is already horribly opitimized, very cpu/gpu intensive etc even for high end systems running vanilla windows. And you are trying to play it on a mac (different architecture), on OS X (different drivers), in a virtual environment (lag, limited resources)? Not a big surprise it refuses to work. Even if it did start, I'd expect a shitstorm of problems. Go back to bootcamp until you can gather some money to build a desktop for gaming. OfficerRaymond 2064 Posted August 4, 2013 Shouldn't cost you a ton for a basic build, if you can build one yourself.
sgtsomebody 0 Posted August 4, 2013 Ok thanks everyone for your responses but please respond as if my computer could run it if you don't believe i can.
OfficerRaymond 2064 Posted August 4, 2013 (edited) Here are two very solid builds that I put together for you: This is your best best. It is a medium end system that will easily allow you to max out DayZ without emptying the bank.http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1nZKc Here is a lower end PC, but still solid enough to run DayZ with minor dents in your wallet. However, you won't be running Crysis 3 with it anytime soon.http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1o01E Edited August 4, 2013 by OfficerRaymond

sgtsomebody 0 Posted August 4, 2013 Your issue lies with VirtualBox, it makes a virtual computer, using only a small partion of the hardware, you'll need to bootcamp again, otherwise you wont be able to play. After staying up until 4 AM I found out this was the right answer. Thank you Husky. Since virtual box is a virtual computer, it also made a virtual graphics card, the virtual graphics card is incapable of running any games even on max settings. I would like to thank you all for your help and Especially OfficerRaymond for his help, I will be buying a computer later this month. Hope to see you guys on some time, I havent played since over a year ago so this should be a great experience.
