Combat timer fail?

Recommended Posts

Well, a few days ago I was running through the woods south of Stary when I come out to the edge of the forest. In free look, I spot a player with a bandit skin. I decide not to take any chances, and open fire on the unsuspecting motherfucker. I miss the first time, and I hit him the second and he's bleeding like a yard sprinkler. He dives behind a bush, and there is a lull in the action. I flank him, ducking between tree to Q-E and take a look. I can't find him. I come up to the bush he dove behind, and he isn't there. Rage fills my heart, as I've had my very first dealing with a combat logger. After a short rage over side chat, and someone gleefully offering me a drink, someone points out that they've added a combat timer to prevent thus combat logging. Odd thing is, I hit him, so shouldn't it have been activated? It didn't take me but ten to fifteen seconds to move to higher ground and have visibility of where he took cover, and the timer is set, to what, 30 seconds? Has this happened to you guys before?

He can just Alt+F4 the game.. Nothing stops him from doing that. Timer of not.

Yeah, even with the combat timer there's nothing to stop people just shutting down their game.

One thing though, if he did disconnect while his combat timer was on it will show in the server log, report it to the admin and they may be able to work out who it was.

You'll most likely need to know roughly what time it happened and what weapon you shot him with to help them get him.

Yeah, Chances are the admin will have deleted their logs by now anyway, but still, if it happens again you know what to do, the quicker you report it the easier it will be for them to catch them.

Also, can't believe that's the first time you've had someone combat log on you, you should count yourself lucky.

False. ArmA 2 and ArmA 3 now have ALT+F4 disabled while playing. In A2 for DayZ, in A3 for keybinds.

Anyway:

It took the OP this long to deal with a combat logger?

And it isn't hard to log out before the timer ends, anyway. Usually hitting ESC + ENTER (if "Logout" was the most recent thing you hit in the esc menu) fast enough will quit out before the timer grays it out.

But the SA should fix all that nonsense.

I've been able to use ALT+F4 many times when I was too lazy to wait for the "Wait 30 seconds before BLA BLA BLA" and also when I'm done messing around in vanilla ArmA 2. You just need to hit ESC and then press ALT+F4. It only works when you have the pause menu up.

You hit ESC first? Oh. Well, thanks. I'm glad I know. :)

They can't just add a log timer, that is stupid.  Your body needs to remain in the world, ie if you alt+f4 your still standing there on the server for the duration of the combat timer and people can kill you.

Just a suggestion.
