SA performance optimization before new features

Recommended Posts

Standalone has SO much potential with all the ideas from the community and the great team developing it.  But above all else this game needs some major optimization for better performance not only for lower end PC users but higher ones as well.  Even on great computers people are struggling to achieve good FPS in cities.

If DayZ ran smooth as butter, and the zombies weren't so glitchy in their movements, I'd be happier then a camel on hump day.

In theory with all the changes they have made it should run better, but we won't actually know whether or not it needs more optimisation until we play it.

I think when the Alpha is released it will be quite laggy for low end PCs but as we get more more updates, it will hopefully run better.

Your best bet at the minute is to ask someone in the closed alpha how it runs (if they're allowed to of course).

At this point there's not really much use in any of us saying how it runs because it's way too early in the process to offer anything useful.  In theory the game should run better than the mod for people because the new client server architecture has taken some of the strain (Zeds, loot etc), it's a different engine and later on it will be optimised for modern gaming, the mod runs on a 5 year old game.

The process of optimisation though comes later on in development, true optimisation can only be achieved once most of the parts are in place.

The mod runs like crap because it added features ArmA 2's designers never thought it'd have, like zombies and melee combat.

The SA is redesigning ArmA 2's engine completely.
So you can expect it to run better. Or at least look better.
