Building my first camp/stash

If you're just making a sandbag stash and not keeping any vehicles or tents in the area than I would suggest making it sort of close to a common spawn point, make it far but close enough that if you spawn in you can get to your stash rather easily. Don't make it directly north of Cherno, Elektro, or Balota. It will be found much quicker by people on their way up north. Try to find 2 trees close together, 2 bushes close together, or a bush and a tree close together and try to put it under them. Using those tactics my friend made a stash that hasn't been found while he was on vacation for 3 weeks, and several weeks after it is still not found.

Any suggestions on how to choose a server to host my stash? I prefer sticking to higher population servers btw

 

That's it.  The higher pop servers are the least likely to close shop.  Nothing is for sure in DayZ.

Update.

I found an e-tool and a sandbag on a dead bandit today. I was playing on 3480 with 50+ players online. I have an idea of where (map location) but I'm not sure about what server to build on. I have only been on the public hive for 2 sessions so I don't really know which servers will be around for long.

Any suggestions on how to choose a server to host my stash? I prefer sticking to higher population servers btw

Use DayZ commander and spot out servers that consistently have a low number of players or none at all. I found a server that has at most 5 players on it. There's two ways of going about it. Set one up in the forest near the coast where no one usually goes to if you are lazy, or go all the way up north and set up a tent there. Thing is if you die, you will have to find a way back up there.
