How do I start a game?

Hi so I purchased day z and arma 2: Combined operations to be able to play it. I checked to see if all the addons were enabled they are. But I can figure out how to play day z. I tried to make my own server on lan but I didnt see any day z maps. I tried campaign and other singleplayer/Multiplayer options ect. I purchased I steam. I do run using the beta patch. (Although I have tried running day z when it ask) I havnt played arma or any games like it so I dont want to join a server and be really really bad. Thanks :)

1. you can'tplay dayz on LAN (or it's very hard and boring to do so)

2. you have to copy yourmaddons folder in arma2 to Operation arrowhead.

3. DayZ commander is better than the in-game one.

Install Arma 2 and Arma 2:OA

Download DayZ Commander: http://www.dayzcommander.com/

Go to the install and update tab in the top right corner of DayZ Commander and update Arma 2 and DayZ

Pick a server you want to play on

He can't even get the game to work or has no idea what the game is or how to play it.

Server files are really not going to help, in this case.

If there aren't other people in the server, you aren't playing DayZ. The mod is literally all about human interaction.

 

I'd just join a server and expect to die a few times, no biggie. Everyone was a newbie once upon a time...

I bought the game DayZ but can not start it as a game.

 

on the Early Access Alpha screen I hit PLAY

 

then I get a page like this:

 

Servers:

Internet      Favorites ....

Host                           hive ....

 

Nothing starts the game----I tried putting numbers in server and typing games names in hive but NOTHING starts any game----Please tell me what to do to play this game!
