Noob advice

Recommended Posts

I’m new to the game and finding it a little too hard starting out, but it’s this aspect that drew me to the game in the first place - a realistic zombie survival sim - so I'm willing to persevere.

I still can’t help but get frustrated though. I’ve been playing for two days (and spent hours reading and watching beginner’s guides) and I still struggle to survive long enough to find supplies.

Of my 20-something attempts, only once did I find a gun and ammo. However, after barely making it out of the village in one piece, I would have traded the gun and ammo (AND my left leg!) for a single piece of food. I died shortly after due to blood loss.

I now prioritise things a little differently after mistakenly thinking “get a gun or die trying!” when I first started. I’m assuming food and water are number 1? And just generally surviving? Which brings me on to my next point: the aim of the game is…?

Don’t get me wrong – I love the idea that it’s left up to you to play the game how you want, but if the aim of the game is just to survive, I can sit out in the woods drinking from streams and eating animals for a month or 2.

I’m aware some of these comments are going to set the fanboys off, but like I said, overall I like the game. I LOVE the idea, but a few handy pointers might make my experience a little less frustrating.

How long do you guys last on average? And how? Step 1: find food, step 2..? If I engage zombies, should I: A) Run. B ) Hide. C) All of the above? Any tips for a beginner would be most welcome.

I am a noob too but comparing with you I am pro for sure B)

the first time I died very many times before I even find a gun.

I think I am dying maybe 100 times before I realise you need to bandage.

Keep trying because after 2 days I start to understand a lot and now I die but normally from players or suicide because I am infected and coffing is not good when you hide in the hospital for killing heros.

don't give up because I promis dayz is the best pvp I ever seen in a computer.

Well what I usually do which works well is, go to Cherno/Elektro, once in there I usually dont bother being stealthy because the only things I do is run to the supermarket for food and then run into the fire station for weapons. If you are new it may be harder to remember where the building are,but you'll learn eventually. Then the next thing after getting decent starter gear is mobility. So I take the long run to Green mountain. I can get there without a map but you may need one. If theres a car there great, if not, I run to Stary Sobor, check for a car and then loot the military tents for a good gun. Then I go to NWAF, look for a car, loot barracks, and get good loot.

First priority for me is always find a melee weapon preferably a hatchet. so i always head straight for the nearest farm and industrial loot locations. hopefully i'll find a knife too, then head for residential spawns mainly for matches, backpack and a pistol,

Chances are you will of found some food and a rifle along the way, but if not you will hopefully have the gear to go hunting animals or if you get really desperate hunting zeds as they often have food and drink on them.

Always try to fight zeds on your own terms, drag them into buildings or lose them behind trees or by weaving around buildings through town, trying to fight them out in the open will usually end up with you getting hit and infected.

As for the aim of the game, I think the key is to just set yourself a simple task such as going to a certain area, finding and fixing a vehicle, getting so many kills or bloodbagging so many random strangers, whatever it may be you'll find that on a busy enough server the random encounters you have with other players will make achieving whatever basic goal you set yourself eventful.
