DayZ Mod Suggestion: Zombies eating players make bodies disappear

Hi guys, TIC here and I thought of this suggestion a while back and thought it'd be a great addition..

Relating to players having an option to hide bodies in-game, zombies could do the same if players fall victim to them.. After zombies consume them in a certain time(If more zombies are eating the body, it'll take less time for the body to vanish)

Reasons

  • Possible performance gains for the server.
  • Makes permadeath more prominent in DayZ.
  • Could prevent players gaining their loot after death.
  • Makes it more realistic for zombies since they do consume human flesh.
  • Makes zombies slightly more threatening.
  • If players do kill zombies surrounding the body, it will prevent it from disappearing and makes it rewarding for themselves to retrieve loot from dead players.

this is a good point but what would be the decay rate. could back packs stay behind, damaged so they cant be worn but still able to be searched

I was thinking of either 2 options if it's possible.

  1. The zombies will rip and tear the backpack when the player dies; meaning all contents in backpacks will be lost along with your remains.
  2. The player will automatically drop the backpack onto the ground but for a limited time after the body disappears.

Decay rate will be determined.. I was thinking 1 zombie would take about 15 minutes, more zombies means a higher decay rate.

From a video I watched when someone dies in SA there is no body, it is now a wooden cross with their gear around it instead. I'm pretty sure it was this game.I will try and find the video again.

I like this idea. I'd lean toward option 2 imo. What about when the player doesn't die from zombies? Death from Pvp or otherwise this could leave the corpse far away from any z's. perhaps have the corpse attract z's but how long could this process take if it in the middle of no where.

That's actually a good idea.. I believe the sound of the flies that happen when a player dies should be loud enough to attract the zombies slowly and start consuming.. The flies are really quite loud :P That's only if zombies are around. If a player kills another player (PvP) it'll grant them an option to get the gear and hide the body (Which is already current in the mod so we can leave this unchanged)

Not in a War Z way though.

I don't think DayZ should ever take ideas from a copy-cat ;)

For my point, it makes perma-death more defining in the DayZ mod instead of retrieving back to your body again to get your previous gear.. It's a bit of an unfair advantage. If you refer back to the original post, I have defined my reasons which could enhance the gameplay a bit more. It's the small things that count

I also have suggested sounds of zombies eating a player while they are on the ground and Razor has told me that it'd require someone else to do. I wonder who would be willing to do that? ;)

I'd like to add that with this idea, it'd bring the zombies to have more of a purpose. Think of them more as a cleaning tool for the server for performance gains.

Maybe the backpack and some of their loot strewn about on the ground. Food items would be torn open and eaten by the zombies so they should be instantly destroyed.

 

Personally, however, I'd rather see some varied mutilated carcasses. I'm talking exposed rib cage, strewn guts, crushed skull, the works. Let's make it happen.

 

The reason is that there's this whole "study body" feature which has been in the game for ages, and still barely works. I want it to be obvious when a player was eaten by zombies, or shot, or whatever. It should be disgusting, and gritty. I want flies buzzing around it, crows picking at it when I walk up and discover my friend's mangled carcass. Memories!

I think, zombies should destroy clothing really quick and thus that is stored in it.

Things that might remain undestroyed/ eaten should be the tougher shoes, protective helmets and backpack due to zombies general disinterest in it.

Complete body destruction should take about 15 mins like you said with one zombie,

7.5 with two, 5 with three Zeds, and so on...

This is a great idea btw

If you are killed by a player he can drag your body around and bury it with an entrenching tool on grass.

Player corpses/ piles of bloodied bone chunks alike should stay around atleast an hour IMO or just untill a server reset.

I don't think the body should vanish, because zombies aren't going to eat everything. But I would love to walk around a corner and see a mangled body laying there with his/her limbs ripped off and laying on the ground, and their loot scattered around them.

I think that feature would be a bit too complex in the current ARMA 2 engine with people's bodies being ripped/torn apart from zombies but even in the Standalone, I couldn't really see that happening as well as much as I wanted it to happen myself but maybe that can, who knows :)

 

With that being said, the only way a zombie could make a body disappear in the mod is for them to relate it to the 'hide body' function but it could be actually delete the body instead of it going underground which would remove it completely from the server for performance gains.

As a reminder, I don't think devoured bodies are possible in the mod.
