misterwit 118 Posted July 1, 2013 Haven't played this game for about 2 months now, but in the time I've lurked the forum I haven't seen anyone discuss the build they work towards as their longer bandit lives carry on. Hell, even your build as a survivor can be seen in just about the same light, so if you've got a kit you know works, let's hear it. It's pretty easy to understand that you'll stretch for a big backpack and all the tools your belt can hold, so you can leave those parts out. Mainly, what weapons do you carry, why do you carry them, and what do you keep in the slots the magazines don't take up?Ever since the first time I picked up an M14 AIM, I knew that was going to be the weapon I kept at the ready. If you can't break a shinbone or make someone a new eyesocket with the M14, you can't shoot at all. Literally the best gun. Second choice would be a winchester or FAL for pretty much the same reasons but minus some performace / ammo availability.Second weapon was usually an M40A3, since I played on a hive that allowed them for as long as I can recall, but more often than not, it was either a shotgun or a kobra. Both are really common, and since I would only use them for urban sweeps, I only had to keep a mag or two. If I was a lucky man, I'd take anything with a grenade launcher in this space. As for kit, I actually adore smoke grenades, as they've saved my life from man and zed alike several times. Leaving two slots for whatever grenades I can find, I pretty much used the rest of the space for ammo, 3 morphine, 1 blood bag, a jillion food, 2 painkillers, and a jerry can. kingkrabbe.#bof 35 Posted July 1, 2013 Late game, I'm always aiming for a LMG. Mk 48 Mod would be the first choice (red dot sight, huge dmg output) or any other LMG. I think LMGs are great for everything except stealth. =)Second weapon would be a DMR only because you can use it with NVG and it's kind of useful sometimes to have a sniper rifle (counter sniping, defending a friend while he is looting a town).Sidearm: PDW! It's just the best sidearm imo because you can load it up with MP5SD mags and pop 30 zombie heads without aggroing any of them. The rest is just "what I can get", morphine, blood bag, food, water bottles... and maybe 1 grenade - not that I would throw it ever without reason (getting robbed or something like that). And I'm no bandit if that's interesting somebody. AntiHero (DayZ) 16 Posted July 1, 2013 (edited) M4A1 CCO-SD twinned with an M14 in backpack, or if I'm gearing up and don't have my gun of choice then it's the M16A2 all the way, it's an easy gun to get hold of and I've used iron sights so long I can get headshots from a pretty good distance. No side arm, extra bandages.(With the CCO-SD and 10+ Stanag mags there really is no point in a sidearm at all)Smokes - Always packing two of these, can save your butt in a pinch, also flares are very useful on a night time server while avoiding players with NVGs, if you're being chased into a building for example, drop one in the stairwell before hiding in the opposite corner, it can cause a distraction or potentially blind them long enough for you to do your thing. xeezy 27 Posted July 1, 2013 I always end up carrying around a DMR later on in the game and a hatchet which I change to to kill zombies. I sometimes take an assault rifle with me if I find one but rarely as I'm a designated marksman for my team.
Dagwood 680 Posted July 3, 2013 M16 acog is my go to. Quietest weapon with medium-long range capabilities. I've noticed that players that are much more willing to expose themselves or change cover when they hear 5.56 retorts vs larger, 7.62 rifles. If they have a long rifle they assume that because of the longer range they will be able to put a shot on me before I would be able to with iron sights or a red dot. Or that I won't be able to achieve a head shot at that range anyhow. Plus the built in range finder on the acog makes rangefinders unnecessary. Lately I've been rolling an m4cco as a close range primary because of the shared ammo but I'm considering making a switch to an M1014 with pellets. Is carrying an M4CCO when I already have an M16acog somewhat superfluous? I'm on the fence. Any thoughts?
Skinwalker 31 Posted July 3, 2013 DMR/M4 CCO SD combo is the best. DMR is the best gun in the game IMO, then the SD works wonders for silently disposing of zombies in high pop/high loot areas as to not draw attention to yourself. swap the M4 SD for an AKM or other M4 non silenced variant if you have a silenced pistol
