is there a way to...

Recommended Posts

setup and play on a private server so i can play by myself?

i want to learn the game but every server i have joined is full of people spawn camping to coast and griefing new players

when i ask questions in side chat everyone just calls you a noob and trashes you for not knowing everything there is to know the first time you spawn (and yes this is on supposed noob friendly servers wtf)

is there a way to set it up so i can play solo until i learn the basics?

so far my experience has been nothing but griefers killing me when i have no more than an axe and a bandage

hardcore is fine but at this point its not exactly a fun game and so far the only fun aspect seems to be griefing other players as opposed to any sort of zombie survival, WarZ (now infestation or something) seems like a better choice at this point and thats been getting reviews of 2-3 /10

anytime i asked these questions in game i just get hate like learn2play noob, or stfu its survival deal with it or gtfo

maybe this just isn't for me, so far the game seems okay but the community seems fucking toxic

If you had asked a few weeks ago, I'd have let you play on my server (just you and me) and taught you. But 1.7.7.1 pretty much broke my mySql and server files and I haven't felt like fixing it.

You best chances are going on youtube and finding a voice tutorial.

Don't let a few assholes make you hate the DZ community. At the very least, the people here and usually a pretty nice. Although you occasionally get static responses, if you know what I mean. Best of luck mate.

And really? That's weird. I've never been on a server (other than my own) that has anything bad to say about people using side chat. Unfortunately.

maybe just bad luck on the servers i found, i thought having noob friendly in the damn server name would at least minimize the jackassery id come across

ive played a few hardcore games with perma death *original darkfall*

i was hoping for a friendly game of survivors teaming up, but so far my experience has been utterly awful.

in practice it just comes across as a game built for griefers and thats about it, now on a hardcore server this should be expected sure, but i've been on nothing but "noob friendly" servers.

although aside from the community i've been dealing with the game seems pretty cool despite its alpha state

se7en thanks ill look in to it

so no one answere my question though is there a way to setup your own server or a offline mode

the community seems to be the biggest barrier to entry for the mod

There is no offline mode no, but the thing that makes dayz what it is are the other players, or other players helping you out for that matter. but no you cannot have offline mode servers.

okay given my experience so far this might just not be the zombie survival game im looking for, way to many people focused on the griefing and general deuchbaggery, was worth a shot i guess at least arma2 is a great game anyways so i didn't totally waste my money

thanks for not being assholes like most of the people i ran in to in the actual game lol

Thats really not the case, some people will grief, you will find that everywhere, but there are alot of people out there that do not have interest in that, for example the group im in TMW focus on helping people and having fun, banditry simply isnt our way, dont drop the game because of some bad side chat incidents, this is seriously the best game ive played and i stand by that, i would give the game a little more chance before dropping it.

also check the link in my sig, you might find what we do interesting.

any way im off to bed 4:30am is my bed time it seems.

night all

you could host a private server on your own computer and play on it, the server itself isn't very resource demanding, i played dayz and ran a server on the same laptop with no issues.

Here's a link, and there's tutorials/guides on this website as well if you run into any trouble

http://www.dayzcc.tk/

if you need more help feel free to message me at anytime

I'd take a bit of a chill pill give things a fair shot. Your thread hasn't been open for more than an hour, on the off time, the replies will come.

I don't know of any decent ways of playing the latest DayZ patch for sure on your own short of renting a private server, which I assume you'd want to avoid. But honestly, there's plenty of empty server to near empty servers you can join and learn the mechanics on if that what you're looking for. You can also take the advice of my good friend Se7eN and apply for our training course, or simply play on our servers.

Whatever you do, don't take those side-chat d-bags to heart and let them represent the whole community. They exists in all games, it's just part of online play. I don't frequent the servers that advertise "noob friendly" but from what I have seen is those people are drawn to those servers because they know it's easy to troll and grief new players. Yes there is a bit of a high concentration of "bandits", but by no means are there side-chat griefers on every server.

Edit: Point proven, Tr1x may hav your answer.

tbh the noob friendly servers contain more jackasses. All noob-friendly servers that i've been on consist mainly of high-voiced kids that think they are cool for driving on the coast and killing fresh spawns and snipers in cherno/elektro. you would think those servers would be better to play on but its the exact opposite, i'd suggest going to public hive servers or vanilla private hive servers.

Op, just rent a server from a provider like DayZ.st, password lock it and play on your own all you like. You never have to let another player join if you do not want to, although you will get bored and or lonely at some point.

Just throwing this out there, but have you tried joining a low pop server? (Like really low pop, 5 people or so) It should be quiet enough to learn the ropes and maybe easy for you to get a group.

When I started playing I jumped straight into a server with 48/50 players and got my ass handed to me repeatedly. Sounds to me like you are experiencing the same thing.

Heck you could even join an empty server, just load up Six or Commander and sort the servers by player number in ascending order.

Google "DaiZy" and try to find an "Unofficial release" that uses as close to vanilla (unchanged) DayZ mechanics as possible.

Before you jump into server hosting look up http://www.dayzpriv.com/ they do a 3 day free trial and are a legitimate company with great support and it is SO easy to import mission files and ammend the PBO. I gave them a shot before I eventually went with http://dayz.st/ as their control panel is nicer, but the caveat is their support is not so great and they are a bit more expensive and now I don't use either.

I am not affiliated with either of those companies, just sharing my experience for OP.

I love how these bambies pass it off as a game built for griefers. Yeah and the real world is a world built for psychopaths, why not go and cry in a corner?

Wow ... you just made his point so perfectly.

OP ... not everyone in DayZ is like the above poster ... you need to learn to ignore people like this.

DayZ Control Center v5.9.3.0 supports DayZ 1.7.7.1. If you want to use the other maps than use DayZ Control Center v5.9.2.0. The software is extremely easy to setup and install and you have full control over your server settings.

You can password protect it and it won't cost you any money to rent a server if you just want to try the game. You can also invite people to join you on the server (as long as your network is installed and configured correctly). I run my test server off an old Laptop that I no longer use and I am able to play locally on my LAN quite comfortably ... this is my normal operation while I am developing and testing new versions of DayZ Control Center.

Once you are happy, then feel free to join other public servers or host your own one if that is what you want to do. DayZ does take a little while to get in to ... I initially tried the game ... was overwhelmed ... went and watched some YouTube series ... and then went back to the game and I know thoroughly enjoy myself.

Like anything in life, it takes a little perseverance ... but it is worth it in the end. You also need to find a server that you like with people that you like and then call that home ... there are many good groups out there.

Good Luck.

yeah your the idiots i was expecting, notice how im trying to learn the game, im no bambie, i would just like to understand how the mechanics work before some low skill putz kills because his epeen is the same size as his RL one.

killing brand new players and griefing them just shows how low skill and useless griefers really are, you think it makes you look skilled going on to noobie servers and padding your kill counts?

your just pathetic if you think hunting people who don't even know how to defend themselves makes you any sort of skilled player.

the real skilled players would be on noob servers helping them learn how to become better and creating a challenge for themselves on other servers in the future.

Actually you are, right I guess it is easy to work out whether someone is a bambie or not and therefore if you kill it, you are not as skillful as killing a veteran. This reminds me actually, just the other day I hunted two bambies (who had guns), running from Elektro to Cherno. I lost them for a good 5 minutes TWICE. However, I managed to get ontop of that mountain and I saw them at the bottom running to cherno. Bang bang bang, they were clearly bambies and did not know how to react, because they hit the deck and only 1 shot was fired in my general direction.. I didn't think I could kill both of them at that distance but a.) I really didn't wanna lose them again and b.)they didn't react very well.

Anyway, you are learning the game? Aww how about we hold your hand and help you through this world carefully. Look, it's not like a mother teaching a child about the world. Some people want to do that, but frankly, not me, and that is REASONABLE. I used to try to learn the mechanics of the game; 1) work out basics of the engine using the arma 2 tutorial missions. 2) play dayz

The whole point of the game is to learn how to survive despite the apocalyptic, fucked up world you are in, in the game. Bambies don't get special treatment for being bambies, they are still survivors that others wish to play with (considering, this is the game). Oh and, as I hinted at above, you can't tell if a player is an arrogant newbie such as yourself - so what's the problem? Maybe you need some pink text floating above your head to say, DON'T SHOOT THIS NEWBIE and an arrow?

Again, I love how you think they are griefers. Yeah... they are out to ruin your day.... how self absorbed are you?

I don't go to newbie servers because people like YOU hang out there; whiny, self entitled little kids who can't accept that this game is hard and maybe they shouldn't blame other players. All you want is a trampoline with a big-ass net all the way around, god-forbid, you might fall off! I have NEVER gone to newbie specific servers infact, even when I was learning like you. Well, not LIKE you because I dealt with the game differently when I was learning. Yes, you learn you cannot trust anyone! And that is what makes your heart beat like crazy when you see someone. You are the type of kiddo that populates these 3000 vehicle, 50 chopper, more loot, self-bloodbag, custom bases, recruit difficulty (don't forget the name-tags), extra barracks joke of a servers. How 'pathetic',

If you want someone to hold your hand, find an individual such as a friend who has played dayz before (he will most likely have taught himself without whining like you do), so he can teach you. But don't expect everyone in the server to stop playing game, just so that you can 'learn' how to play.

There are a lot of people learning how to play dayz and become good at it, and I assure you, with your attitude, you will never get anywhere near being good. It takes experience, if you played and accepted that the game IS hard, you would over time learn how to play. Infact, this was the most enjoyable part of the experience for me- yet it seems the opposite for you, because you just. don't. get it.

cool story bro,

you are SOOOO hardcore im scared, seriously i think i peed. i dont give a fuck about how you play or how bad ass you think you are or how awesome this game makes you feel, why you think i would is beyond me.

did i ask anyone to hold my hand? no, i asked specifically how to run a private server so i CAN learn on my own with out pathetic fucking idiots like you going on to servers specifically marked noob friendly

but you just had to come in to a thread that had nothing at all to do with you and try and wave your little epeen up in the newbies face but all you've acomplished is coming across as some whiny little 18 year old punk whos nuts havent dropped, its just sad go crawl back under your bridge and jerk off to the sears catalogue you fucking loser.

i just feel bad for you. for you to need to puff you chest up this much over a game you must have the most pathetic little meaningless life ever

you came in here, added nothing to the discussion (aside from giving me a laugh) all over me asking if there was a way to run a private server?

just wow, chill out before you have a heart attack from being so fucking hardcore

any way.... thank you to the people who weren't complete retards your help is very appreciated, i loaded up a lower pop vetern vanilla server and it made a world of difference started with absolutely nothing, but was able to get in through a town and grab some basic supplies and a some weapons, im now headed inland with enough gear to keep me going for a few days

a few questions for those who are actually being helpful

where is a good place to find larger back packs?

i've read up on a glitch with putting weapons in your bag making them vanish is there a safe way to do it without making it vanish? i found a nice rifle but have no ammo for it and would prefer to use the hatchet until i come across some more ammo

Well I think this thread has degraded enough. The OP has his answer so let's just stop the discussion and let the thread die. Feel free to close the thread mods to avoid a flaming argument.

Backpacks are found in various places, they seem easy to get in Supermarkets and firestations but at the Barracks you tend to find larger ones, Czech Backpacks, Coyote Packs, in the towns I would expect you to find Alice packs and Czech pouches.

I have never had the backpack glitch with weapons, I always have an assault rifle and sniper and frequently switch between the two, it works with the hatchet as well if you have it equiped you can switch to the gun in your bag. (This works for me on my current server and previous ones, it may not work for you I have no idea if it's dependent on the DayZ version - if it used to be a bug that has been patched etc)

One thing to be careful of, if you find a bigger bag on the floor, transfer your current bag contents into it before picking it up, when you drop your equipped bag it may vanish. Had this happen to me a few times.

Oh and just one random tip which has helped me a lot - I always carry a smoke grenade, you can select it by pushing F, when you throw it it attracts zombies, this is really useful for losing aggro or getting them away from a building you want to enter. Just bare in mind its a giant signal to other players that you are there.
