RyanTH 4 Posted June 24, 2013 Hi there! I'm a new player that enjoys DayZ a lot, and I just wanted to ask a question or two. So, DayZ is balls-to-the-wall hard, but that's what makes it great! Now, the main problem I am having is with zombies. I don't want a nerf on the zombies, just a way to avoid being lunch for the zombies. The server I play on makes you spawn with a Revolver and a melee weapon. So, I can easily slice zombies with my melee weapon, that's great and all, but they usually take a few hits to take down a single ghoul, which gives them enough time to hit you 2-3 times, due to the hitboxes. All I want to know is how to avoid zombies, I know how to crouch-walk, I just need a way to easily get past zombies without shuffling on the ground... any tips? Also, I only use the revolver as a last resort.
fluxley 2228 Posted June 24, 2013 (edited) If you're out in the open hold shift and slowly move backwards away from the zeds, i find crouch also helps with accuracy, the zeds will come up to you and pause just before they attack, thats the time to strike. you have to be patient with your attacks try to move in a steady manner and predict their movement a little as just spamming the attack will be inaccurate and lead to you being hit.The same things apply in a buildings except the are a lot slower so you have more time to aim.Melee weapons are quite inaccurate so its worth spending a little time swinging at a wall taking note of the spread of impact a certain distances, and also you'll be surprised at how far a hatchet attack can reach. GBTP 114 Posted June 24, 2013 The best bet for not getting spotted is going to be your ground shuffle, You just have to be patient with moving when there are zombies around. If you can't stand it the shift button will help, it's still slow but it will knock a line or two off your vis meter.Stay close to walls, you'll notice that you are much less visible when you're right up against a wall, if you're in a town or city, hug the walls, move slow and use your lean to peek around corners before going out blindly. Aporis 422 Posted June 24, 2013 also if you get chased by the zeds and dont want to kill them, enter open buildings like barns that have an easy way out, then run to nearby bush and hide.stay low, prone when crossing roads in towns, stay on the grass and not on the road. unless you really have to, hug the walls.thats how you should keep yourself alive. bigdogsco 143 Posted June 25, 2013 Line of sight is very important too. If you run away around a corner the zombie will go to where it last saw you and look again. If you can be out of sight from this point, congratulations you've lost your zombie.
LordDante 30 Posted June 26, 2013 Also you can use flares (espesially during nighttime), tin cans and empty bottles. Throw them where you want to zeds to go, and they will follow. Works like a charm most of the time, and you will have plenty of time to loot any building.
Sula 1205 Posted June 26, 2013 I agree, line of sight is the main issue. However, the additional problem is these new zombies have been given the vision of bloody eagles! They can see you from the next town. <_<Anyhoo, I say keep walls and bushes and trees and vehicles between you and the zombies. If it's dark and you're walking slowly then you can walk right passed them. If it's daylight and you blink too loudly the entire map's zeds will come running but as I say, learn to swap quickly from slow crouch to fast run and back again. I've changed my keys so they are closer to my arrow keys, which I use instead of the wasd keys.
